We all have a role to play in our world. Some are to be spouses and parents, others single and vowed to religion or a life of service, while others to specific careers or professions. In order for us to experience joy and satisfaction in our many roles, God has shaped us specifically for those roles. In addition, God has set out a plan for us to serve him and bring him greater glory.
It is no accident that you are reading this brief for our upcoming day of recollection. Think of it as part of God’s plan for you. Yes, your abilities, interests, talents, personality, and life experiences are not just coincidences. They are gifts specifically to you, and gifts to live out of for God’s glory. In doing so, you will come to realize your true identity as a spouse, parent, friend, or believer.
Rick Warren of Saddleback Church has identified the 5 aspects that many people share, especially Christians. They form the acronym S-H-A-P-E and are: Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences.
In our time together, we will clarify and claim our specific purpose moving forward as believers, and to use what God has given us to serve others in our families and communities of faith, and beyond. Lunch is included. Guided by Fr. Nicholas Amato
Father Nicholas is a regular presenter of retreats and days of recollection here at Bon Secours. He is the author of three books on spirituality — all available in our bookstore and on Amazon.
