SUMMARY:Welcoming Divine Love: A Quiet Day with Poetry
DESCRIPTION:“Love bade me welcome\, but my soul drew back” writes the poet George Herbert. We know we are invited to love God\, but we don’t always find it easy to receive or even to experience God’s love for us. The words of poetry can help us to move into our hearts\, to listen\, and to respond to the love that always surrounds and blesses us. This one-day silent retreat will use poetry\, Scripture\, and other creative media to invite and deepen our meditations on what it means to love and to be loved\, in the embrace of the Holy. Lunch is included. Guided by Dr. Kathleen Henderson Staudt. \nKathleen Henderson Staudt\, PhD works as a teacher\, poet\, spiritual director\, and retreat leader in the greater Washington\, DC area. She serves as adjunct faculty in theological studies at Virginia Theological Seminary and has taught frequently in the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute. A poet and writer\, Kathy has published four volumes of original poetry\, including her recent title\, Viriditas: New and Selected Poems. She has published two books and many articles on the British Catholic artist and poet David Jones\, as well as writings on Christian spirituality and practice\, most recently Shaping a Faithful Life: Discernment and Discipleship for Young Adults. Kathy is a Companion in the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross (SCHC). Her website is KathleenStaudtPoet.com.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Dialogue with the Mystics: Spiritually Navigating the Seasons of Life with Gratitude
DESCRIPTION:Join us this autumn for some intentional time to celebrate the diverse heritage of the mystics. This lunch and dialogue program is an invitation for a delicious meal and engaging conversation just before the holiday season begins its unfolding. During our time together\, we will briefly explore the personal biographies of certain mystics alongside their incredible contributions to contemporary spirituality\, especially around encountering the Divine in everyday life. Moreover\, we will specifically consider their legacy on spiritually navigating the seasons of life with the practice of gratitude and how being grateful can serve as an entry point into mysticism and its transformative\, empowering grace. While engaging with a broad range of these figures across the arc of Christianity\, a significant portion of the program will unfold around the wisdom of Julian of Norwich\, Henri Nouwen\, and Br. David Steindl-Rast. \nAs we ground our encounter of these cherished mystics and their teachings within our personal experiences\, we will participate in creative exercises and contemplations to access our unique voice and deepen our respective journeys. Additional time for reflection through prayer\, meditation\, and group dialogue will also be integrated. Prior familiarity with mystics or mysticism is not mandatory but welcomed. Please bring along an open heart and mind and a journal for use throughout the program. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a contemplative theologian and creative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently\, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute. Gordon has facilitated numerous retreats and workshops that focus on creating opportunities for participants to explore and enhance their spirituality and well-being through various media and formats. He also participates as a peer group leader in the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation’s Transforming Community Program. His passions include uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community\, as well as fostering support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Trained as a spiritual director/companion\, end-of-life doula\, and Reiki practitioner\, Gordon welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, expanding\, and flourishing. SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer: Sr. Sara Dwyer
DESCRIPTION:Walk in the Light of Jesus \nAdvent is a season of waiting\, watching\, and preparing that happens in the ‘darkness of winter.’ It is a season that embraces darkness\, stillness\, and reflectiveness. We will consider various aspects of life that reflect the Scriptural themes of Advent. God’s Word invites us to open to a new discipleship\, where we can more fully see\, understand\, and walk the path of Light. \nGod’s voice is often faint or unclear because it isn’t what we expected or wanted to hear. Perhaps we have settled for a religious complacency overshadowed by comfort or conformity. \nHoliness is a challenging mission. Advent reminds us we don’t journey alone. We so often need a faith community and trusted family and friends. We need to find companions to be with us on the journey\, so we can\, as Isaiah says\, “walk in the Light of the Lord.” Guided by Sr. Sara Dwyer. \nAll are welcome to attend the Friends Day of Prayer retreats\, held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. It is not required to attend every month\, so register for one or more sessions as your schedule allows. While the presenters and topics vary\, each Friends Day of Prayer typically includes pastries and conversation at 9:30am\, a morning presentation at 10am\, an optional Mass\, a delicious lunch\, short periods of free time to enjoy the grounds or shop in the bookstore\, and an afternoon presentation. \nSr. Sara Dwyer\, ASC has been a member of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ\, an International Congregation\, for 55 years. Sr. Sara has served in various adult faith formation positions during those years. She was a member of her congregational leadership team and served as their Justice\, Peace\, and Integrity of Creation contact for over 10 years. Sara served eight years as the Director of the Washington Retreat House in Washington\, DC. In January 2025\, she accepted a ministry role within her community\, where she continues to offer retreats and other faith formation programs. Sara holds a master’s degree in Theology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and a master’s in Education from Boston College. Sara enjoys interacting with people\, reading\, retreat ministry\, and taking nature walks.

SUMMARY:Advent Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“The Lord will come and he will not delay.” (Cf. Habakkuk 2:3) \nAdvent is about waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus\, commemorating his birth/first coming and also anticipating the second coming of Christ. But our Christian faith tells us that God is with us\, already and still. This holy season invites us to encounter God in the present\, in the day-to-day of our lives. Set aside some personal time and join us for a quiet day of prayer this Advent\, a season of both hopeful waiting and encountering God who is ever present. \nThe day will begin with reflective input by Sr. Bernie\, followed by time for private prayer and reflection\, lunch in silence\, the option of walking the labyrinth or beautiful grounds\, journaling\, or just relaxing with God. The atmosphere for the day will be reverent silence\, which allows us to encounter God and be attuned to God’s promptings. There will be the opportunity to attend Mass if you wish. The day will close with us coming together to name the blessings of the day and for a closing prayer. Lunch is included. This will be a day of silence. Guided by Sr. Bernie Claps. \nSr. Bernadette Claps\, MSW is a Sister of Bon Secours and provides spiritual direction and spiritual companionship at the Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center. She holds graduate certificates in Spiritual Direction\, Spirituality\, and Aging.  She has done graduate studies in theology and received a Master of Social Work from New York University.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and 4th Saturday. Every virtual session is held from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.)\nPlease email Joanne at jmcahooneph3@gmail.com for the Zoom sessions invitation for Virtual sessions. \nQuiet mornings provide an opportunity for quiet – for reflection\, prayer\, listening\, presence – in common with others. Perhaps you’d like to carve out time\, but could use the support of a structure that is also flexible? Most of us could! And there is encouragement and strength in coming together in this way. You are welcome whenever matches your schedule/desire/need. \nEach gathering is bracketed by an opening and closing prayer. The quiet hour at its heart is not scripted or guided. Each one enters the quiet and utilizes or follows it as she/he desires to do so. Some opt to journal\, read\, walk; to engage in meditation; imaginative prayer or centering prayer; art or collage; or physical movement. The commitment to enter the quiet with some regularity as an ongoing practice is the point. By doing so in companionship with others\, we support each other’s journey just by willingly being present in God’s presence together\, and hoping good for each other. In our closing prayer\, we pray a blessing for each other. Please feel welcome! Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. – spiritual director\, retreat leader\, coach – facilitates the Quiet Mornings.

SUMMARY:In-Person Centering Prayer Session
DESCRIPTION:Held IN PERSON on the: \n\n2nd and 5th Tuesdays of the month\, 1-2pm and\n4th Tuesday of the month\, 7-8pm.\n\nFor these in-person sessions\, registration is required in advance\, due by the Monday before each in-person session.  \n(Virtual Zoom sessions will be the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1-2pm. Register for Virtual Sessions by emailing facilitator Amy Sorensen Kulesa at kulesa.neshama@gmail.com.) \nCentering Prayer is a form of Christian contemplative prayer\, in which one abides in the Presence of God in interior silence. Centering Prayer emphasizes the indwelling Presence of the Holy Trinity within and among us\, and our openness\, through receptive silence and restful surrender\, to God’s action and healing grace. For our one-hour sessions\, we will gather to pray together in silence\, attentive to the stillness within\, and reflect together on readings related to our prayer life. The sessions are relaxed and informal. You are invited to dress comfortably and use a meditation cushion\, if you would like. \nFacilitation for each Centering Prayer session will be led by an experienced member of the group\, both staff and from the community. We follow a consistent format from week to week\, with variability each session in the reflective reading that is shared. Coordinated by Amy Sorensen Kulesa.

SUMMARY:Grief Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Please note that the presenter and program description for this retreat have changed from what was printed in the Spring 2026 issue of Bridges.\nTending Sacredly to Your Grief Amidst the Holiday Season \n“Let your holiday grief be what it is. And let yourself — your new\, grieving self — be who you are.” —Alan D. Wolfelt\, Author & Grief Companion \nThe holidays can be an especially challenging time for those who are grieving. Whether your loss is through death\, a transition\, or another significant life change — the end of a relationship\, a job or career\, a home\, or a way of life — grief can feel especially tender and overwhelming during the holidays and the surrounding winter season. As the year reaches its close and the expected holiday excitement builds\, we may become increasingly aware of both what has been lost or changed and what we long to always remember in our hearts. \nIf you find yourself at this threshold\, please join us for this day-long retreat\, which offers a safe and sacred space to acknowledge your grief in your own voice\, practice self-compassion\, and discover meaningful ways to move through the arriving season with greater peace and intention. During our time together\, we will explore various expressions of grief during this time of year through personal reflection\, contemplative exercises\, and communal rituals. We will also engage with the spiritual practices of setting intentions and creating boundaries as we continue navigating our journey of grief in such a season. \nAs a community\, we will also consider the wisdom and healing possible through creating new traditions and meaningful rituals\, which serve to honor what has been lost while also making space to welcome hope\, connection\, and resting in the present. Please bring along comfortable clothes and shoes for some optional time in nature\, weather depending. A journal will also serve as a helpful companion on this retreat. SUMMARY:Journeying to the Heart of the Nativity with a Celtic Spirit
DESCRIPTION:As you set your intentions this Advent to honor the Incarnation of God’s Love and celebrate the holiday season\, what would it be like to do so with a Celtic spirit? What graces and gifts could be waiting for you at the heart of the Nativity by incorporating some of the rituals\, music\, and perspectives of the ancient Celtic way into your annual traditions? \nJoin us for a day-long retreat that invites you to explore Celtic spirituality with its intimate connection to the heartbeat of God and Mother Earth and its reverencing of the returning light at the Winter Solstice. Throughout the program\, participants will be engaged in cherished Celtic legends about the birth of Christ and their intersection with various Christian saints from this tradition. Additionally\, time will be spent participating in practices from Celtic spirituality that touch both the senses and the soul while offering moments for creating personal meaning. \nDuring each of these activities and exercises\, participants will have opportunities for contemplation and prayer\, group dialogue\, and mirthful expression related to all that is explored personally and within community. While this retreat is similar in theme to last year’s Celtic Advent retreat\, the content offered will be different. Participants from the 2025 retreat are encouraged to register if interested. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nIn the Celtic spirit of blessing others: \nThe Light of the Christmas Star to you\, the warmth of home and hearth to you\, the hope of a childlike heart to you\, and the joy of a thousand angels to you… \n\nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. SUMMARY:New Year’s Eve Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Humor and Laughter: Divine Gifts \nFinding humor in both the joyful experiences and challenging situations in life — and embracing the freedom to laugh — are important elements of a healthy and balanced spirituality. The closing of one year and the opening of a new is a wonderful opportunity to explore our spiritual life through these elements. On this threshold of “what has been and what will be\,” we will explore how the joyful sound of laughter calls us to action. We will discuss where humor can be a powerful testimony. We will answer together what it means to be a collective chorus and how we can make laughter an intentional practice. Bring the joys and sorrows of the year as we join with friends\, old and new\, to reflect\, heal\, look forward\, and yes\, have more than a few laughs! Lunch is included. \nAndrea Springer\, MA has spent many years in executive administration and formation. She is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland\, now Notre Dame of Maryland University\, with both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Liberal Arts and Religious Studies. In addition to being a graduate of the University\, she is an adjunct faculty member. Andrea designs and facilitates workshops and retreats for a variety of organizations and has been a popular presenter for Women’s Wellness and other Bon Secours retreats.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday.

SUMMARY:Returning to You: A Somatic Restart for the New Year
DESCRIPTION:You are wise. You are powerful. You have everything you need inside you. How would our new year be different if we believed and lived these statements — not just in our minds\, but in our bodies and souls? Often life has us rushing so fast and is so loud we cannot hear the enlightened\, intuitive whisper within us. Grounded in somatic work\, we will spend our day returning to our own powerful wisdom. As we let go of what no longer served us in the past\, we will ground into the present and invite in the future of our dreams. This is a space to show up exactly as you are\, in all of your beauty and mess. Bring your uncertainty\, joy\, grief\, hope\, fear\, and every other feeling or sensation that swirls through you. Participants are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothing and are invited to bring a yoga mat\, beach towel\, blankets\, pillows\, a journal\, or anything else that helps you feel cozy and safe (we will have extras\, so no need to purchase any of these items). Lunch is included. Guided by Karen Bortvedt Estrada. \nKaren Bortvedt Estrada is a Somatic Stress Release Practitioner. Whether it is chronic pain\, mental health struggles\, insomnia\, or just feeling off\, Karen blends her training in somatics\, nonviolent communication\, and mindfulness to support clients in tending to their nervous system to help them find relief and gain more capacity to navigate the ups and downs of life. In addition to being certified in Somatic Stress Release\, Karen is a Restorative Justice Circle Keeper and Mindfulness Practitioner. She is certified in Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion in the workplace\, credentialed in Mindfulness and Neurodiversity\, and trained in Nonviolent Communication. Prior to a career shift to somatics and mindfulness\, she spent over a decade working cross-culturally\, both domestically and internationally\, in a variety of nonprofit organizations. One common thread through her previous roles was holding space for others and collaborating to build networks of support. After seeing and experiencing how systems in our world are often built to disconnect us from ourselves\, Karen shifted her focus to supporting folks in returning to their own internal wisdom. In her spare time\, Karen loves deep conversations\, kayaking\, spending time with her dogs\, family and siblings\, and building community wherever she finds herself.

SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - February
DESCRIPTION:The Spirituality of Suffering \nOur spiritual development entails the reciprocal flow between our understanding of our religious convictions and how we practice them. This Friends Day of Prayer will examine some of the core religious convictions of our spirituality for the suffering and their caregivers. In the morning\, we will focus our attention on having a vital sense of the presence of God by thinking about how and where God is present to us. In the afternoon\, we will examine our convictions about suffering\, the cross\, death\, judgment\, and the afterlife. \nAll are welcome to attend the Friends Day of Prayer retreats\, held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. It is not required to attend every month\, so register for one or more sessions as your schedule allows. While the presenters and topics vary\, each Friends Day of Prayer typically includes pastries and informal conversation at 9:30am\, a morning presentation at 10am\, an optional Mass\, a delicious lunch\, short periods of free time to enjoy the grounds or shop in the bookstore\, and an afternoon presentation. Guided by Rev. Rich Gula. \nRev. Richard M. Gula\, P.S.S. is a retired Sulpician priest. As a Sulpician\, Rich dedicated himself to educating seminarians\, priests\, and lay pastoral ministers. After nearly four decades of teaching\, he then served for eleven years as the Director of Personnel for the Sulpician Fathers\, Province of the US. During his years of teaching\, he published widely in moral theology\, medical ethics\, and spirituality\, including The Good Life and The Call to Holiness from Paulist Press and The Way of Goodness and Holiness from Liturgical Press. His teaching and his publications were recognized as building bridges from academic theology to the practical interests of pastoral ministers and of the people in the pews. In his retirement\, he serves as hospice volunteer and grief companion for Gilchrist within the Charlestown Senior Living Community.

SUMMARY:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest
DESCRIPTION:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest is an immersive wellness experience designed to help you slow down\, reconnect with yourself\, and explore rest as a sacred practice. Through reflective learning\, guided conversation\, lectio divina\, mindfulness\, meditation\, journaling\, music\, and an immersive sound bath\, we will create space to explore the stories we carry about work\, worth\, productivity\, resilience\, and rest. Together\, we will listen. We will reflect. We will release. We will receive. And we will honor the wisdom of those who came before us while making space for a different way of being. This isn’t a retreat where you come to become a better version of yourself. You are not a project to be fixed. You are invited to simply come home. \nLEARN: Explore the relationship between rest\, resilience\, identity\, culture\, and wellness. LISTEN: Create intentional space for stories\, wisdom\, music\, and reflection. REFLECT: Use guided journaling and contemplative practices to examine what you’ve been carrying. RECLAIM: Consider what rest\, joy\, softness\, and receiving look like in your life now. RECEIVE: Allow meditation\, music\, vibration\, and sound to support deep relaxation. REST: End the experience in an immersive sound bath designed to quiet the noise and invite your body into stillness. REMEMBER: You have spent enough time carrying. Come put something down. Come remember the parts of yourself that became quiet while you were surviving\, working\, caregiving\, achieving\, and showing up for everyone else. Come remember that rest belongs to you\, too. Come rest. Come restore. Come remember. Lunch is included. Guided by Teara Booker. \nTeara Booker\, MPH\, CD\, E-RYT 300 is a seasoned wellness practitioner and maternal health expert with over 20 years of experience in public and maternal health. She holds degrees in health\, dispute resolution\, and behavioral management and is extensively trained and certified in a variety of movement and restorative practices. A passionate interdisciplinary educator\, Teara is trained in Ashtanga\, Yin\, Vinyasa\, Restorative Yoga\, and Yoga Nidra\, creating workshops that cultivate mindfulness\, healing\, and self-awareness. Her approach integrates movement\, meditation\, and somatic practices to help participants connect with their bodies\, release tension\, and nurture overall well-being. Through her workshops\, Teara inspires individuals to embrace balance\, cultivate resilience\, and harness their inner strength for lasting wellness.

SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“Rend your heart not your garments\, and return to the Lord\, your God.” (Joel 2:13) \nThese words from the prophet Joel invite us to take an inward journey during the 40 days of Lent to search our hearts as to where we stand with God and our neighbor and to enter more deeply into the Mystery of God’s love. \nJoin us for a quiet day of prayer as we begin the sacred Lenten season. The atmosphere for the day will be reverent silence\, which allows us to more deeply encounter God and be attuned to God’s promptings. It will begin with reflective input by Sr. Bernie\, followed by time for private prayer and reflection\, lunch in silence\, the option of walking the labyrinth or beautiful grounds\, journaling\, or just relaxing with God. There will be an opportunity to attend Ash Wednesday liturgy with distribution of ashes\, if you wish. The day will conclude with participants coming together to name the blessings of the day and to join in a closing prayer. This is a day of silence. Lunch is included. Guided by Sr. Bernadette Claps\, CBS. \nSister Bernadette Claps\, a Sister of Bon Secours\, provides spiritual direction and spiritual companionship at the Retreat and Conference Center at Bon Secours. She holds graduate certificates in Spiritual Direction\, Spirituality and Aging. She has done graduate studies in theology and received a Master of Social Work from New York University.

SUMMARY:Lean In Towards the Light - A Lenten Invitation
DESCRIPTION:This retreat meets participants a couple of weeks into the Lenten journey\, as we carry hopes for what God might be shaping within us: in our relationship with God and with others\, in the ways our faith is expressed through action\, and in how our lives might have a meaningful impact on our communities and the wider world. We may not know exactly how this will happen\, but we believe that it can\, and we want to collaborate with God in bringing it about. In the midst of February — with slight hints of spring and life about to burst forth from death — we will listen and reflect on the choices and invitations God puts before us and work with him to be more available to what this Lent might do in us\, and then through us. Lunch is included. Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. holds a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies\, master’s degree in Religion/Pastoral Ministry\, graduate certificates in spiritual direction and in spirituality studies\, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago\, where her specialization was spirituality and practical theology. Along the way\, Joanne has taught in elementary\, secondary\, undergraduate\, and graduate school settings. She has also served as youth minister\, high school campus minister\, consultant\, writer\, national trainer\, diocesan staff member\, staff member of a graduate school\, spiritual director\, facilitator of retreats\, and professional coach. Joanne has welcomed and worked with many individuals and groups\, serving them as they listen for God’s invitations in their personal and corporate lives. She finds it a privilege to be involved in spiritual and human formation — bringing deep listening\, presence\, creativity\, and a commitment to her own ongoing formation to her work.

SUMMARY:Honoring Life's Do-Overs
DESCRIPTION:We are living in a time of resets. This election season\, many feel America is in need of a restart\, just as enslaved women and women throughout history have yearned for a fresh start they were never afforded. What would a do-over look like in your life if given the grace and time to dream of one? This year\, we will explore the possibilities of starting anew — privately and collectively — through meditation\, reflection\, creation\, and manifestation. Each participant will have the space to create anew in their own artistic way. This is not a session of regrets\, but a journey of adventure\, discovery\, lament\, and laughter. Get ready to dream and take flight! Lunch is included. Guided by Dr. Renee K. Harrison. \nRenee K. Harrison\, a Professor of African American and US Religious History at Howard University\, earned her PhD in Religion from Emory University with an interdisciplinary focus on History\, Philosophy\, African American Studies\, and Black Feminist/Womanist Thought. Her recent book\, Black Hands\, White House: Slave Labor and the Making of America\, documents and appraises the role enslaved women\, men\, and children played in building the United States\, especially the nation’s capital. She is currently working on a project about Native Americans’ contributions\, tentatively titled Smudging Our Way Through Broken Treaties: Native American Spirituality and American Genocide. Dr. Harrison is also the author of Enslaved Women and the Art of Resistance in Antebellum America and co-author of Engaged Teaching in Theology and Religion with Dr. Jennie Knight (UVA). She is known for her creative works\, speaking engagements\, teaching\, healing workshops\, and rituals. A native of Los Angeles\, CA\, Dr. Harrison is a retired 11-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and the former executive director of A Leap of Faith Productions\, a non-profit community-based theater group in Los Angeles. She is also an artist\, poet\, and playwright.

SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - March
DESCRIPTION:Praying Lament in the Shadow of the Cross \nThis Friends Day of Prayer invites you to the courageous\, challenging\, and profoundly spiritual practice of lamenting suffering. Reflecting on the raw language of the Psalms and the Passion stories found in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew\, where even Jesus prayed Psalm 22: “My God\, my God\, why have you forsaken me\,” we will consider different ways psalmists express their suffering\, while also attempting to practice faith in the loving divine presence. After an introduction to biblical lamentation\, participants will have time in private prayer and scripture meditation to start expressing their own lament\, either through writing or choosing from other scripture passages that speak to them. The day also will include a mix of large and small group discussions for voluntary sharing. Guided by John Lafferty. \nJohn Lafferty has an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies and graduate degrees in Drama and Social Work\, as well as graduate courses in Pastoral Counseling and the Book of Job. He is an associate member of the Catholic Biblical Association. Over the past five years\, he has delivered presentations at academic conferences as an independent scholar\, examining the Book of Job through the lens of faith recovery in the aftermath of overwhelming trauma. He began his study of the Psalms of Lamentation during his research about Job. He is retired from teaching at community colleges in Maryland and is currently doing social work with people in shelters in Baltimore.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Continuing Education for Spiritual Directors - March
DESCRIPTION:Sharing Your Light Through the Practice of Spiritual Direction: A Panel Discussion \nNeither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand\, and it gives light to everyone in the house. —Matthew 5:15 \nThe practice of spiritual direction is an opportunity to share your gifts\, skills\, and experience with others so that they can deepen their relationship with God. Setting up a practice requires a spiritual foundation based on prayer and continuing renewal. Your practice also depends on rising above your hesitancy about self-promotion so that you can find ways to talk about spiritual direction\, attract prospective clients\, and establish a business model based on integrity and professionalism. \nIn this continuing education session\, you will interact with a panel of spiritual directors who have set up and sustained their practice. They will share their experience and address your questions about topics that will include: \n\nBranding: creating your identity as a spiritual director\nMarketing and communications: connecting with prospective clients\nFinances: setting fees and managing income and expenses\nOnboarding: beginning a relationship with a new client\nEvaluation: assessing the effectiveness of your practice\nSelf-care: tending to your own spiritual\, emotional\, and physical health\n\nYou will have an opportunity to submit questions before the session so that the panelists can prepare to cover what interests you. Facilitated by Linda Mastro.\n \nThis is a virtual program\, open to all spiritual directors. A Zoom Meeting link will be emailed to registered participants by the Friday before the program. When registering\, please be sure to include the correct email address to which the Zoom link should be sent. \nLinda Mastro is a graduate of the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute in Marriottsville\, MD\, where she now serves as a faculty member. In addition to being an Associate of Bon Secours\, Linda is a spiritual companion for individuals and groups and brings a spirit of compassion and light-heartedness to her work as a women’s retreat facilitator\, pilgrimage leader\, and workshop guide. Linda is co-author of the book Petite Retreats: Renewing Body\, Mind\, and Spirit Without Leaving Home. Learn more about Linda and her ministry at LivingPilgrimage.com.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday.

DESCRIPTION:Held IN PERSON on the: \n\n2nd and 5th Tuesdays of the month\, 1-2pm and\n4th Tuesday of the month\, 7-8pm.\n\nFor these in-person sessions\, registration is required in advance\, preferably by the Monday before each in-person session.  \n(Virtual Zoom sessions will be the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1-2pm. Register for Virtual Sessions by emailing facilitator Amy Sorensen Kulesa at kulesa.neshama@gmail.com.) \nCentering prayer is a form of Christian contemplative prayer in which one abides in the presence of God in interior silence. You are invited to dress comfortably and use a meditation cushion if you would like. \nFacilitation for each Centering Prayer session will be led by an experienced member of the group. We follow a consistent format from week to week\, with variability each session in the reflective reading that is shared. Though sponsored by the Retreat Center\, Centering Prayer is a member-supported prayer community.
