SUMMARY:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest
DESCRIPTION:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest is an immersive wellness experience designed to help you slow down\, reconnect with yourself\, and explore rest as a sacred practice. Through reflective learning\, guided conversation\, lectio divina\, mindfulness\, meditation\, journaling\, music\, and an immersive sound bath\, we will create space to explore the stories we carry about work\, worth\, productivity\, resilience\, and rest. Together\, we will listen. We will reflect. We will release. We will receive. And we will honor the wisdom of those who came before us while making space for a different way of being. This isn’t a retreat where you come to become a better version of yourself. You are not a project to be fixed. You are invited to simply come home. \nLEARN: Explore the relationship between rest\, resilience\, identity\, culture\, and wellness. LISTEN: Create intentional space for stories\, wisdom\, music\, and reflection. REFLECT: Use guided journaling and contemplative practices to examine what you’ve been carrying. RECLAIM: Consider what rest\, joy\, softness\, and receiving look like in your life now. RECEIVE: Allow meditation\, music\, vibration\, and sound to support deep relaxation. REST: End the experience in an immersive sound bath designed to quiet the noise and invite your body into stillness. REMEMBER: You have spent enough time carrying. Come put something down. Come remember the parts of yourself that became quiet while you were surviving\, working\, caregiving\, achieving\, and showing up for everyone else. Come remember that rest belongs to you\, too. Come rest. Come restore. Come remember. Lunch is included. Guided by Teara Booker. \nTeara Booker\, MPH\, CD\, E-RYT 300 is a seasoned wellness practitioner and maternal health expert with over 20 years of experience in public and maternal health. She holds degrees in health\, dispute resolution\, and behavioral management and is extensively trained and certified in a variety of movement and restorative practices. SUMMARY:Honoring Life's Do-Overs
DESCRIPTION:We are living in a time of resets. This election season\, many feel America is in need of a restart\, just as enslaved women and women throughout history have yearned for a fresh start they were never afforded. What would a do-over look like in your life if given the grace and time to dream of one? This year\, we will explore the possibilities of starting anew — privately and collectively — through meditation\, reflection\, creation\, and manifestation. Each participant will have the space to create anew in their own artistic way. This is not a session of regrets\, but a journey of adventure\, discovery\, lament\, and laughter. Get ready to dream and take flight! Lunch is included. Guided by Dr. Renee K. Harrison. \nRenee K. Harrison\, a Professor of African American and US Religious History at Howard University\, earned her PhD in Religion from Emory University with an interdisciplinary focus on History\, Philosophy\, African American Studies\, and Black Feminist/Womanist Thought. Her recent book\, Black Hands\, White House: Slave Labor and the Making of America\, documents and appraises the role enslaved women\, men\, and children played in building the United States\, especially the nation’s capital. She is currently working on a project about Native Americans’ contributions\, tentatively titled Smudging Our Way Through Broken Treaties: Native American Spirituality and American Genocide. Dr. Harrison is also the author of Enslaved Women and the Art of Resistance in Antebellum America and co-author of Engaged Teaching in Theology and Religion with Dr. Jennie Knight (UVA). She is known for her creative works\, speaking engagements\, teaching\, healing workshops\, and rituals. A native of Los Angeles\, CA\, Dr. Harrison is a retired 11-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and the former executive director of A Leap of Faith Productions\, a non-profit community-based theater group in Los Angeles. She is also an artist\, poet\, and playwright.
