SUMMARY:G.P.S. for a Joyful Life
DESCRIPTION:A Day to Rediscover Gratitude\, Purpose & Peace in Every Season \nCan you imagine setting out on a long road trip with no GPS? No map\, no directions — just hoping you’ll find your way. You’d take wrong turns\, miss the exits\, arrive frazzled and late… if you arrived at all. Yet so often we navigate the bigger journey — these rich\, full\, sometimes uncertain years of life — without any map at all. We take a wrong turn into worry\, lose the road to old griefs\, and quietly wonder where the joy went. The good news? You were born with an inner GPS of your own — one that\, once you learn to switch it on\, gently guides you back to peace and quiet joy in a matter of minutes. \nIn this warm and unhurried day retreat\, Kapil Patel shares the simple\, life-tested practice he calls G.P.S. — Gratitude\, Purpose\, and Spirit — three ways to turn on your inner compass and find your way home to yourself. Kapil speaks not as someone who has it all figured out\, but as someone who lost his way and found it again. Through his own story\, the wisdom of hundreds of joyful people he has interviewed\, and time-honored\, research-backed practices\, he offers tools so simple you can carry them into tomorrow morning. \nYou don’t need to be at any particular stage of life or faith to belong here. Whatever you bring — a recent loss\, a season of change\, gratitude looking for somewhere to land\, or simply a longing for more lightness in your days — you are welcome. Together\, in a circle of kindred spirits\, the day unfolds gently: \n\nGuided Meditation & Visualization — quiet the mind and reconnect with your inner wisdom and your sense of the sacred\nMindful Movement & Breathing — simple\, accessible practices that ease tension and restore calm\, at your own pace\nSound Exercises — experience the soothing\, clarifying power of sound\nShared Reflection — share and listen in a kind\, welcoming circle\, as much or as little as you wish\n\nBy the end of the day\, you’ll know how to switch on your own inner G.P.S. — three simple practices to greet each morning with more gratitude\, a renewed sense of purpose\, and a lighter\, more joyful heart. The road ahead still has so much beauty in it. This day is about learning to see it\, feel it and embody it. Lunch is included. Guided by Kapil Patel. \nKapil Patel knows what it is to lose your way. After a successful career in technology\, he found himself burned out\, weary\, and quietly disconnected from any sense of joy or purpose. Out of that low place came a discovery that would reshape his life: happiness isn’t a luxury we earn somewhere down the road — it’s a necessity. It is available to us now\, in the ordinary moments of any day. That realization began a journey of more than twenty years spent learning what truly makes people joyful and at peace. Kapil has interviewed hundreds of deeply content people from every walk of life — from CEOs to barbers — and trained extensively in Emotional Intelligence. From all he gathered\, he created a simple practice he calls the G.P.S. for Happiness™ — Gratitude\, Purpose\, and Spirit — to help people switch on their own inner compass and find their way back to joy. He is also the co-author of a book on leadership with the legendary Brian Tracy. Kapil believes that anyone can build a fulfilling life\, regardless of background or season — and he shares his message with humility\, warmth\, and a good deal of laughter\, inviting people to Think\, Act\, Learn\, and Laugh. His mission is to help others rediscover the joy that has been with them all along.

SUMMARY:Be Still and Know
DESCRIPTION:Embodied Living Through Mindfulness and Centering Prayer \nImagine being present to your life\, to yourself\, and to those around you. Imagine being able to be with difficult emotions without being overwhelmed by them\, finding the space to pause before reacting automatically\, offering yourself more kindness and compassion\, bringing a sense of curiosity and wonder to life\, and being more aware of God’s presence. These are some of the benefits of contemplative practices such as mindfulness and centering prayer. \nMindfulness is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment\, nonjudgmentally\, and with compassion. The present moment is where we meet God. Mindfulness also helps us become more aware of the wisdom of our bodies. Paying attention to our experiences and this wisdom gives us valuable information we can use to live better. Centering prayer is resting in God’s presence in silence\, consenting to God’s presence and action within. These practices allow us to live more connected with God and to more effectively do what God is calling each of us to do\, individually and collectively. Come learn about and experience how contemplative practices can deepen your awareness of God’s presence and help you live with more authenticity and greater compassion. \nWear comfortable clothing. You may want to bring a blanket or shawl. If you have one\, please bring a yoga mat or something soft to lay on\, a cushion or pillow to sit on\, and a journal or paper. Please note\, however\, that it is not necessary to lay down or sit on the floor to participate. Lunch is included. Guided by Dr. Heather Alexander. \nHeather Alexander\, MD has a passion for encouraging and empowering people to live well by becoming more present to the moments of their lives and living with more compassion. She sees this as her way of offering peace to our world that is so in need of healing. Initially learning mindfulness to reduce stress\, she found that practicing mindfulness helped her to be more aware of God’s presence. Dr. Alexander has led workshops on practicing mindfulness for stress reduction and connecting with God\, mindfulness for parents\, and mindfulness for teens. Dr. Alexander received her undergraduate degree from Haverford College. She received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington\, DC. She currently practices in Columbia\, MD. She has trained with the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. Dr. Alexander has also trained with the Mindful Schools program to teach mindfulness to children.

SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - May
DESCRIPTION:The Impact of the Eucharist in Our Lives \nRecently\, there has been a dramatic increase in the celebration of the Eucharistic presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament with processions\, periods of adoration\, and greater attendance at daily liturgies. This spiritual revival of the central aspect of the Catholic faith is remarkable and is clearly a gift from the Lord Himself. Although this retreat draws from Catholic teaching on the Eucharist\, it is open to individuals from all faith backgrounds. \nFr. James will present three reflections on the impact of the Eucharist in our lives: Jesus leads us; Jesus feeds us; Jesus heals us. It is our hope that these prayerful reflections will assist us in deepening our love for Jesus and in realizing that He is present in the Eucharist not just for our adoration\, but also to let His presence transform us so that we can bring this grace to others. Guided by Fr. James Day. \nAll are welcome to attend the Friends Day of Prayer retreats\, held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. It is not required to attend every month\, so register for one or more sessions as your schedule allows. While the presenters and topics vary\, each Friends Day of Prayer typically includes pastries and informal conversation at 9:30am\, a morning presentation at 10am\, an optional Mass\, a delicious lunch\, short periods of free time to enjoy the grounds or shop in the bookstore\, and an afternoon presentation. \nFr. James R. Day\, O.SS.T.\, is a member of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and the Captives (Trinitarians). Fr. James has an extensive background in different aspects of ministry. He served as pastor for 18 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and as instructor\, counselor\, and administrator in high school ministry. Fr. James has also participated in programs of formation for men discerning a vocation to the religious life. After completing his 27-year ministry at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville\, MD\, Fr. James now resides as sacramental minister at St. Mark Parish\, Catonsville\, MD and is a frequent presider at liturgies at Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center.

SUMMARY:Caregiver's Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, spend some intentional time in sacred community with fellow caregivers\, being reaffirmed and supported as a caregiver for someone with a long-term illness\, condition\, or disability. This retreat utilizes a lens for understanding and naming the spiritual dimension of the caregiver role and its myriad emotions and experiences and is tailored to uplift participants who may or may not provide hands-on care for their loved one\, but who are involved in their lives. Topics that will be explored are intrinsic to the caregiver journey\, especially the necessity of self-care and compassion\, burnout\, family dynamics\, grief\, and the often-conflicting emotions that accompany this reality. \nThroughout the program\, participants will be invited to engage in storytelling\, prayer/meditation\, writing\, and other contemplative exercises that validate the caregiver’s experience and provide therapeutic tools for the ongoing commitment of caregiving. The morning and afternoon sessions will envelop the themes of caregiver grief\, healing\, and hope within each participant’s respective circumstances\, while also envisioning endurance and renewal. Resources will be offered related to what is examined and for ongoing nourishment on the journey. A journal is a great companion for this program in addition to comfortable walking shoes for optional times of healing in nature. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nWe also offer an online support group for caregivers on Zoom in 2027 on January 9\, March 20\, September 18\, November 20. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a creative and contemplative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently\, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute. He also participates as a peer group leader in the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation’s Transforming Community Program. His passions include uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community\, as well as fostering support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Trained as a spiritual director/companion\, end-of-life doula\, and Reiki practitioner\, Gordon welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, expanding\, and flourishing. SUMMARY:Honoring My Story - Who Do I Say I Am?
DESCRIPTION:Chimamanda Negozi Adichie says\, “When we reject the single story\, when we realize that there is never a single story…we regain a kind of paradise.” \nOur lives are not linear\, but filled with nuances\, curves\, and start and stop movements. The world can be very quick to dictate or impose its own lenses and disregard the personal stories we carry. There is power in someone’s voice; there is honor in someone’s story that represents a village that has formed them. We are more than a name\, a title\, or a circumstance. During this one-night retreat\, we will explore how we choose a story to tell that honors our identity. We will also honor how to listen without judgment to the stories shared by others. Jesus asked Peter\, “Who do you say I am?” We are invited into that same sacred question\, as we first focus on defining who we are. How one chooses to share is up to them. It may be through poetry\, drawing\, dance\, silent mime. We honor all we receive. Honoring one another’s story is a lived testimony. Guided by Rev. Sandra Dorsainvil. \nLodging and meals are included. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes at 3pm on Saturday. \nRev. Sandra Dorsainvil is an ordained minister with the American Baptist Churches\, USA. She serves as a ministry coach and women’s group retreat facilitator with the Center for Career Development & Ministry. Rev. Sandra offers ministry coaching accompaniment to clergy and BIPOC women through her private consulting agency\, CONNECT-SD\, LLC. Her bilingual abilities in English and French and experiences living in Africa\, Europe\, and North America offer a unique cross-cultural approach to clients and organizations. She has graduate degrees in pastoral ministry from Boston College and in rehabilitation counseling and psychology from Boston University. She is an ICF coach certified. She has completed Level 1 of Group Spiritual Direction and the Transforming Community program at The Shalem Institute. Rev. Sandra brings over 35 years of human services\, including mental health and disability advocacy\, group retreat facilitation\, and pastorate\, national\, and international ministry engagements. Rev. Sandra is a published author of several books in English and in Spanish. The ministry of deep listening and presence is a core element in her work\, and she makes sure participants in her retreats and one-on-one coaching sessions are seen\, heard\, and covered in prayers.

SUMMARY:In-Person\, Evening Centering Prayer Session
DESCRIPTION:Held IN PERSON on the \n\n2nd and 5th Tuesdays of the month\, 1-2pm and\n4th Tuesday of the month\, 7-8pm.\n\nFor these in-person sessions\, registration is required and preferred in advance. \n(Virtual Zoom sessions will be the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1-2pm. Register for Virtual Sessions by emailing facilitator Amy Sorensen Kulesa at kulesa.neshama@gmail.com.) \nCentering prayer is a form of Christian contemplative prayer in which one abides in the presence of God in interior silence. Centering Prayer emphasizes the indwelling presence of the Holy Trinity within and among us\, and our openness\, through receptive silence and restful surrender\, to God’s action and healing grace. For our one-hour sessions\, we will gather to pray together in silence\, attentive to the stillness within\, and reflect together on readings related to our prayer life. The sessions are relaxed and informal. You are invited to dress comfortably and use a meditation cushion if you would like. \nFacilitation for each Centering Prayer session will be led by an experienced member of the group. We follow a consistent format from week to week\, with variability each session in the reflective reading that is shared. Though sponsored by the Retreat Center\, Centering Prayer is a member-supported prayer community.

SUMMARY:A Hidden Wholeness: Uncovering an Integral Ecology
DESCRIPTION:The air you are breathing has animated countless beings before you. The soil on which you stand carries memory and possibility. The water you drink has flowed through the vascular system of a tree. You are participating in an integral ecology. Your role within this reality is unique\, and your community’s role is also unique. From restoring an ecosystem to visiting someone who is imprisoned\, to volunteering at a food bank\, to addressing redlining\, to raising a family\, each of us has a role to play — if only we take the time to listen and uncover where we are being invited. \nJoin us for an emergent day of reflection that balances contemplative practices with action. To that end\, we will literally get our hands dirty at the nexus of ecology\, spirituality\, and care for the other. Through prayer\, individual reflection\, shared experiences\, and ecological insight\, we will begin to uncover what already exists within us and in our communities — a hidden wholeness. Together\, we will listen for opportunities to act prophetically and with imagination in our homes\, parishes\, and communities. In doing so\, we begin to rediscover a deeper unity that has been present all along. Lunch is included. Guided by Jarrod Kinkley. \nJarrod Kinkley is the founder and Director of the Cooperative for Integral Ecology — a nonprofit that accompanies individuals and faith communities as they live into integral ecology through action and contemplation. He is also the Director of Ecology and Environment for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden\, stewarding seventy-five acres in partnership with the Sisters\, the staff\, and those who call the land home. Jarrod is a relational leader in education and nonprofit management\, cultivating connection and facilitating organizational growth. He has supported national nonprofits through strategic project management\, conference facilitation\, retreat design\, and more. A poet at heart\, Jarrod’s experience also includes teaching\, collegiate and high school campus ministry\, and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and the Camino de Santiago. He is rooted in the North Hills of Pittsburgh\, PA\, where he lives with his wife and three daughters\, and operates a backyard native plant nursery grounded in contemplative spirituality and integral ecology.

SUMMARY:April Hermit Day
DESCRIPTION:Do you… \n\nneed a day of quiet and solitude to rest\, reflect\, be?\nneed at least one of these each year?\nsense that God may be inviting you to enter silence and reorient?\n\nSince Fall 2025\, we’ve offered this opportunity on October 29 in celebration of National Hermit Day. It has been warmly received\, so we’re introducing April Hermit Day as a midyear invitation to pause\, continue this practice\, and join others who courageously enter the silence. \nAlthough the origins of Hermit Day are not firmly known\, many attribute it to the 18th century and suggest a connection to the Irish Hermit Saint Colman. Through Hermit Day\, we join the many others who\, throughout Christian history\, have entered silence and solitude to remember what is most important: to listen\, to pray. A day like this has the potential to initiate or strengthen a regular practice. \nSince 2014\, Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center has hosted Quiet Morning events that are also opportunities for shared silence. This day will follow a similar pattern. We will begin and end together in simple prayer\, have lunch in shared silence\, and spend the day on our own in prayer or other quiet activities such as walking\, doing art\, reading\, journaling — whatever you feel inclined to do. The Center’s daily Mass at 11:00 am will be available to you\, if desired. This is primarily a silent retreat\, though a very brief (optional) sharing will be available towards the end of the day. Lunch is included. Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. holds a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies\, master’s degree in Religion/Pastoral Ministry\, graduate certificates in spiritual direction and in spirituality studies\, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago\, where her specialization was spirituality and practical theology. Along the way\, Joanne has taught in elementary\, secondary\, undergraduate\, and graduate school settings. She has also served as youth minister\, high school campus minister\, consultant\, writer\, national trainer\, diocesan staff member\, staff member of a graduate school\, spiritual director\, facilitator of retreats\, and professional coach. Joanne has welcomed and worked with many individuals and groups\, serving them as they listen for God’s invitations in their personal and corporate lives. She finds it a privilege to be involved in spiritual and human formation — bringing deep listening\, presence\, creativity\, and a commitment to her own ongoing formation to her work.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. Every virtual session is held from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.)\nPlease email Joanne at jmcahooneph3@gmail.com for the Zoom sessions invitation for Virtual sessions. \nQuiet mornings provide an opportunity for quiet – for reflection\, prayer\, listening\, presence – in common with others. Perhaps you’d like to carve out time\, but could use the support of a structure that is also flexible? Most of us could! And there is encouragement and strength in coming together in this way. You are welcome whenever matches your schedule/desire/need. \nEach gathering is bracketed by an opening and closing prayer. The quiet hour at its heart is not scripted or guided. Each one enters the quiet and utilizes or follows it as she/he desires to do so. Some opt to journal\, read\, walk; to engage in meditation; imaginative prayer or centering prayer; art or collage; or physical movement. The commitment to enter the quiet with some regularity as an ongoing practice is the point. By doing so in companionship with others\, we support each other’s journey just by willingly being present in God’s presence together\, and hoping good for each other. In our closing prayer\, we pray a blessing for each other. Please feel welcome! Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. – spiritual director\, retreat leader\, coach – facilitates the Quiet Mornings.

SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - April
DESCRIPTION:Searching for the Sage Within: A Contemplative Journey \nIt is said that as you age you gain more wisdom. A Sage\, as we have seen in movies or read in books\, is a person (or perhaps a character) who is an exemplary model of interior wisdom\, a teacher\, and has a connection with the Divine. \nAs we grow into our adulthood\, we begin to experience fundamental shifts that give us pause to question life’s meaning and our purpose. Each decade leads us to a place of less doing and more being. We are drawn to reflect on our self-evolution and appreciate the rhythm of changes in life. \nThis Friends Day of Prayer is an invitation to take a contemplative journey that will empower us to harness the wisdom of our lives to learn\, grow\, and deepen our humanity and meaning as we move on in years. The journey will include presentation\, small/large group conversation\, prayer\, and silent reflection. Silence will be recommended during various times of the retreat to provide us the space we need to listen deeply so we can reflect on our inner and spiritual life. Guided by Sharon Scibek. \nSharon Scibek is a certified coach through the International Coaching Federation. She brings to her coaching a wide-range of life and professional experience — from church ministry to business — where she was a recognized leader in human resources. Additionally\, she served as adjunct professor at Anne Arundel Community College and McDaniel College. In all aspects of her work\, Sharon emphasizes the importance of compassionate respect for the individual and their potential. Sharon founded Gracious-Space\, LLC (Gracious-Space.com) to fulfill her passion of guiding others to reach their full potential through her professional/life coaching and transformational conversation services. Her success is built on a simple approach: honest and respectful conversation. The transformational conversations that she guides are opportunities for small groups to share spirit-filled insights through deeper connections. She hosted a podcast titled Gracious Space\, where she interviewed people that are making a difference in the world.

SUMMARY:Triduum Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Following in the Footsteps of Jesus: A Pilgrimage Through Holy Week \nThe Triduum – the three sacred days that lead up to Easter – invites us to follow Jesus through the holy\, and at times heartbreaking\, days of Holy Week. During this retreat\, you will enter the path that Jesus traveled from table to garden\, from cross to tomb\, and from death to life again. Each step along the pilgrim’s path will extend an invitation to be reborn into the mystery of God’s love for you. Relive the fullness of this enduring love again through enlightening presentations and thoughtful sharing\, liturgies designed to move both heart and soul\, and ample time for prayerful silence and reflection. Return home inspired to bring the spirit of love into the Easter season. \nThis is primarily a silent retreat. Lodging and meals are included. The retreat will begin on Thursday at 4:30 pm and will end with lunch after Mass on Easter Sunday. Meals and lodging are included. \nA COMMUTER OPTION is also available. The commuter option costs $325 and includes everything except for lodging and breakfast. Call the Welcome Center at 410-442-3120 to register for the Triduum Retreat Commuter Option. \nFr. SUMMARY:Non-Financial Retirement Planning
DESCRIPTION:Ease Into Your Next Chapter \nRetirement is a major life transition\, one that invites each of us to create a lifestyle that honors who we are and who we are becoming. Some people are stepping away from jobs that never reflected their true interests\, while others are leaving careers that felt central to their identity. Either way\, the shift into retirement brings questions about meaning\, purpose\, connection\, and daily rhythm. \nMany people focus on saving for retirement but give little thought to what life will actually be like once they get there. This retreat offers space to explore the non‑financial side of retirement and to begin easing into this new chapter with greater clarity and intention. It is designed for those preparing to retire in the next few years as well as those who have already retired and want to shape a more satisfying experience. \nDuring our time together\, we will explore the mental\, social\, physical\, and spiritual components of retirement. Insightful resources will be shared\, and participants will engage in thought‑provoking exercises that support the creation of a meaningful\, grounded\, and personally aligned retirement lifestyle. Lunch is included. Guided by Jenifer Kirin. \nJenifer Kirin\, MLS\, CPRC\, ACC is a Certified Professional Retirement Coach\, an ICF-certified coach\, and a lifelong learner who helps people navigate the stress\, emotions\, and complexities of the transition into retirement. She also serves as the Special Collections Archivist for the Sisters of Bon Secours\, USA\, a position that has enriched her understanding of faith\, calling\, and legacy. Her prior career as a professional librarian included work at a graduate school dedicated to holistic health and wellness\, life‑purpose\, and the exploration of personal and communal values. These combined experiences give her a grounded understanding of the issues that often arise in retirement concerning identity\, purpose\, wellness\, and legacy. Through her business\, Synerjen Coaching\, she provides group and individual coaching services in the areas of retirement and stress\, all designed to help people live with greater ease.

SUMMARY:Lenten Lunch and Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:We Are Beloved in Our Woundedness \nHave you ever truly reflected upon your own belovedness? And\, in searching for deeper meaning within your experiences of pain and hardship\, have you wondered about the purpose of human suffering and how God might be present within it? As the perennial Lenten Season arrives this year\, you are encouraged to pause contemplatively and consider these rich and necessary questions through a spiritual lens. \nWith this understanding\, you are invited to join facilitator Gordon Creamer for a delicious lunch and dialogue about two seminal texts from renowned theologian and influential spiritual writer\, Henri Nouwen. In both Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World and The Wounded Healer: Ministry in Contemporary Society\, Nouwen explores what it means to acknowledge our brokenness and awaken to the abiding love that God always has for us. Throughout these poignant texts\, he continuously inspires individuals to recognize and integrate what it means to live as God’s beloved\, even within our respective woundedness and unique life journeys. \nDuring the program portion\, participants will have opportunities for engaging in prayerful pauses\, creative and spiritual-oriented exercises around excerpts from each text\, and group dialogue sessions all within sacred community. Prior reading of Life of the Beloved or The Wounded Healer is not mandatory for active participation. Please bring along a journal for use during the program. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, Maryland.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Continuing Education for Spiritual Directors - March
DESCRIPTION:Sharing Your Light Through the Practice of Spiritual Direction: A Panel Discussion \nNeither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand\, and it gives light to everyone in the house. —Matthew 5:15 \nThe practice of spiritual direction is an opportunity to share your gifts\, skills\, and experience with others so that they can deepen their relationship with God. Setting up a practice requires a spiritual foundation based on prayer and continuing renewal. Your practice also depends on rising above your hesitancy about self-promotion so that you can find ways to talk about spiritual direction\, attract prospective clients\, and establish a business model based on integrity and professionalism. \nIn this continuing education session\, you will interact with a panel of spiritual directors who have set up and sustained their practice. They will share their experience and address your questions about topics that will include: \n\nBranding: creating your identity as a spiritual director\nMarketing and communications: connecting with prospective clients\nFinances: setting fees and managing income and expenses\nOnboarding: beginning a relationship with a new client\nEvaluation: assessing the effectiveness of your practice\nSelf-care: tending to your own spiritual\, emotional\, and physical health\n\nYou will have an opportunity to submit questions before the session so that the panelists can prepare to cover what interests you. Facilitated by Linda Mastro.\n \nThis is a virtual program\, open to all spiritual directors. A Zoom Meeting link will be emailed to registered participants by the Friday before the program. When registering\, please be sure to include the correct email address to which the Zoom link should be sent. \nLinda Mastro is a graduate of the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute in Marriottsville\, MD\, where she now serves as a faculty member. In addition to being an Associate of Bon Secours\, Linda is a spiritual companion for individuals and groups and brings a spirit of compassion and light-heartedness to her work as a women’s retreat facilitator\, pilgrimage leader\, and workshop guide. SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - March
DESCRIPTION:Praying Lament in the Shadow of the Cross \nThis Friends Day of Prayer invites you to the courageous\, challenging\, and profoundly spiritual practice of lamenting suffering. Reflecting on the raw language of the Psalms and the Passion stories found in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew\, where even Jesus prayed Psalm 22: “My God\, my God\, why have you forsaken me\,” we will consider different ways psalmists express their suffering\, while also attempting to practice faith in the loving divine presence. After an introduction to biblical lamentation\, participants will have time in private prayer and scripture meditation to start expressing their own lament\, either through writing or choosing from other scripture passages that speak to them. The day also will include a mix of large and small group discussions for voluntary sharing. Guided by John Lafferty. \nJohn Lafferty has an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies and graduate degrees in Drama and Social Work\, as well as graduate courses in Pastoral Counseling and the Book of Job. He is an associate member of the Catholic Biblical Association. Over the past five years\, he has delivered presentations at academic conferences as an independent scholar\, examining the Book of Job through the lens of faith recovery in the aftermath of overwhelming trauma. He began his study of the Psalms of Lamentation during his research about Job. He is retired from teaching at community colleges in Maryland and is currently doing social work with people in shelters in Baltimore.

SUMMARY:Honoring Life's Do-Overs
DESCRIPTION:We are living in a time of resets. This election season\, many feel America is in need of a restart\, just as enslaved women and women throughout history have yearned for a fresh start they were never afforded. What would a do-over look like in your life if given the grace and time to dream of one? This year\, we will explore the possibilities of starting anew — privately and collectively — through meditation\, reflection\, creation\, and manifestation. Each participant will have the space to create anew in their own artistic way. This is not a session of regrets\, but a journey of adventure\, discovery\, lament\, and laughter. Get ready to dream and take flight! Lunch is included. Guided by Dr. Renee K. Harrison. \nRenee K. Harrison\, a Professor of African American and US Religious History at Howard University\, earned her PhD in Religion from Emory University with an interdisciplinary focus on History\, Philosophy\, African American Studies\, and Black Feminist/Womanist Thought. Her recent book\, Black Hands\, White House: Slave Labor and the Making of America\, documents and appraises the role enslaved women\, men\, and children played in building the United States\, especially the nation’s capital. She is currently working on a project about Native Americans’ contributions\, tentatively titled Smudging Our Way Through Broken Treaties: Native American Spirituality and American Genocide. Dr. Harrison is also the author of Enslaved Women and the Art of Resistance in Antebellum America and co-author of Engaged Teaching in Theology and Religion with Dr. Jennie Knight (UVA). She is known for her creative works\, speaking engagements\, teaching\, healing workshops\, and rituals. A native of Los Angeles\, CA\, Dr. Harrison is a retired 11-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and the former executive director of A Leap of Faith Productions\, a non-profit community-based theater group in Los Angeles. She is also an artist\, poet\, and playwright.

DESCRIPTION:This retreat meets participants a couple of weeks into the Lenten journey\, as we carry hopes for what God might be shaping within us: in our relationship with God and with others\, in the ways our faith is expressed through action\, and in how our lives might have a meaningful impact on our communities and the wider world. We may not know exactly how this will happen\, but we believe that it can\, and we want to collaborate with God in bringing it about. In the midst of February — with slight hints of spring and life about to burst forth from death — we will listen and reflect on the choices and invitations God puts before us and work with him to be more available to what this Lent might do in us\, and then through us.
