SUMMARY:Dreaming Your Dream of Peace
DESCRIPTION:“Dreaming Your Dream of Peace” is a unique interactive group participation program. The participants will consider questions about how each of them perceives “peace” from their own lives and the wider world. Then those responses will build into an “inventory” of peace building to refer to in their future peace making. The participants also will each form an “article” of peace\, using artwork materials that will be provided (pipe cleaners\, play dough\, stickers\, construction paper\, etc.). Then the program will conclude with a list of items that form a peace building/ peace making outlook/ approach. The program is conducted in small groups and involves much conversation. Guided by Chuck Michaels and Jaymie Litsey. \nChuck Michaels\, Esq. has been the volunteer coordinator for Pax Christi Baltimore since its founding more than 40 years ago. The group sponsors programs\, vigils\, prayer services\, workshops\, protests\, and other peace and justice activities in the Baltimore area. He has also been on the National Council for Pax Christi USA for six years and is a member of the regional council for Pax Christi Metro DC-Baltimore. He was Coordinator for Peace and Justice for the Archdiocese of Baltimore for four years (1982-1986)\, a member of the planning committee of the Annual Archdiocese Social Ministry Convocation (1983-2024)\, and former program manager for Beyond the Boundaries\, an Archdiocesan program advocating for affordable housing in the Baltimore region. He was also a member of the Institute of Islamic\, Christian and Jewish Studies (ICJS) Justice Leaders Fellowship program from 2023-2024. He is the Vice President of the St. Peter’s Cemetery Restoration Fund Board\, connected to Jonah House (a community founded by the late Phil Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister). He is the author of No Greater Threat: America After September 11 and the Rise of a National Security State (Algora Publishing\, 2002). He is a member of the Catholic Community at Relay. \nJaymie Litsey has over 25 years of training\, facilitation\, and change management experience. Her journey as a peace advocate began 20 years ago. Jaymie is currently a US federal government employee and lives in Columbia\, Maryland with her husband (Chuck Michaels) and two cats\, Frida and Louis. All three are sweet\, lovable\, and sassy. She is a member of the Catholic Community at Relay.

SUMMARY:Converging Upon Compassion: A Weekend Interfaith Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Our human compassion binds us the one to the other…as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future.” —Nelson Mandela \n“Compassion is the language of God. Let us learn to live with kindness\, to love everyone\, even when they do not love us.” —Pope Francis \nIn these times\, compassion is a word that is heard frequently in many spaces as a necessity for building community\, but what does it actually mean to live compassionately? \nThe wisdom present in our world’s diverse religions provides humanity with inspiring and practical ways to embody compassion in daily life. In fact\, there is a distinct convergence around compassion as each of these faith traditions regards it as intrinsic to how human beings should interact with each other. While some regard this virtue as a divine mandate or a path to enlightenment\, several interpret it as a collective responsibility because of the way it powerfully connects individuals\, communities\, and even nations. \nJoin us for a weekend retreat that will explore several transformative teachings on compassion from an interfaith perspective\, including Christian\, Jewish\, and Islamic viewpoints alongside touchstones from Buddhist and Indigenous traditions. Through contemplative prayer\, writing prompts\, group dialogue\, and other creative exercises\, participants will spend time engaging in ways to embody compassion more fully in their lives and self-expression. There will also be ample time for personal reflection in between presentations for deepening one’s experience with the spiritual practices of compassion considered throughout the weekend. Rituals woven into the retreat will create opportunities for participants to experience self-compassion while also envisioning how they can cultivate it in their encounters with all of Creation. \nPlease bring along an open mind and heart for this journey! A journal and comfortable shoes will make great companions for this weekend. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nMeals and lodging are included. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch at 1pm on Monday. Mass will be available Sunday and Monday mornings for those who wish to attend. \n\n \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a creative and contemplative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently\, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute. Gordon has facilitated numerous retreats and workshops that focus on creating opportunities for participants to explore and enhance their spirituality and well-being through various media and formats. He also participates as a peer group leader in the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation’s Transforming Community Program. His passions include uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community\, as well as fostering support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Trained as a spiritual director/companion\, end-of-life doula\, and Reiki practitioner\, Gordon welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, expanding\, and flourishing. SUMMARY:Summer Sabbatical Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Excavate Your Soul \nA sabbatical is a sacred pause: a chance to listen beneath the surface of everyday life and notice what has been buried under busyness and achievement. Modern research similarly frames sabbaticals as more than time away: they can support mental and physical well-being\, creativity\, confidence\, new perspectives\, and profound personal and/or professional shifts. \nSummer Sabbatical is for anyone who yearns to step away from the constant hum of productivity and begin the deeper work of remembering who they are. A major cornerstone of the retreat will be a digital detox. Participants will turn off devices in favor of research-backed\, time-honored modalities that support the brain and body. Across three spacious days\, Summer Sabbatical invites you to answer larger questions: What am I here to do? What big dreams do I have? What am I being called toward? What needs to be let go? What systems can support me? Blending solitude\, thought-provoking exercises\, reflective journaling\, long-term planning\, yoga\, meditation\, nature\, community\, and meaningful sharing\, this retreat creates room for clarity to emerge. Expect to dream big and brainstorm with an eye to the future. You will not be inundated with heavy professional development. Instead\, plan to “excavate your soul” through a series of guided exercises that allow you to tune into that deep and lasting wisdom that has always been inside of you. You will leave not merely refreshed\, but reoriented with a renewed understanding of the life you are meant to live and a fleshed-out plan to help get you there. \nMeals and lodging are included. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch at 1pm on Sunday. Mass will be available Sunday morning for those who wish to attend. \n

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. Every virtual session is held from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.)\nPlease email Joanne at jmcahooneph3@gmail.com for the Zoom sessions invitation for Virtual sessions. \nQuiet mornings provide an opportunity for quiet – for reflection\, prayer\, listening\, presence – in common with others. Perhaps you’d like to carve out time\, but could use the support of a structure that is also flexible? Most of us could! And there is encouragement and strength in coming together in this way. You are welcome whenever matches your schedule/desire/need. \nEach gathering is bracketed by an opening and closing prayer. The quiet hour at its heart is not scripted or guided. Each one enters the quiet and utilizes or follows it as she/he desires to do so. Some opt to journal\, read\, walk; to engage in meditation; imaginative prayer or centering prayer; art or collage; or physical movement. The commitment to enter the quiet with some regularity as an ongoing practice is the point. By doing so in companionship with others\, we support each other’s journey just by willingly being present in God’s presence together\, and hoping good for each other. In our closing prayer\, we pray a blessing for each other. Please feel welcome! Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. – spiritual director\, retreat leader\, coach – facilitates the Quiet Mornings.

SUMMARY:Silent Directed Retreat - July 2027
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: There is a MISPRINT in Bridges for this retreat. Bridges has correct dates but incorrectly says the retreat is from Friday – Thursday. Correct dates are SUNDAY\, July 11 – SATURDAY\, July 17. Our apologies for the error.\nA silent directed retreat provides an opportunity for individuals to spend dedicated time with God and is a rich means of being open to God’s grace and love. Unlike a conference or guided retreat\, there are not group sessions or daily presentations. Instead\, the ‘content’ of the retreat is your own ongoing relationship with God. Individuals meet daily with a spiritual director\, whose aim is to collaborate with the work of the Spirit as together you reflect on God’s presence and movement in your life. Spiritual directors may make suggestions related to your conversations (prayer forms\, Scripture\, reading materials\, quotes\, questions\, wonderings) to support and deepen your experience and awareness of God with you. The rhythm of the day is decided by each individual and may include walks\, reading\, writing\, art-making\, mindful movement\, liturgy\, etc. The Retreat Center affords plenty of places and spaces for prayer\, with beauty abounding. We come to directed retreats as individuals and as part of a community of others who are also seeking and listening. This spiritual community joins you in silence\, offering support by being prayerfully aware of all the individual journeys\, gifts\, and needs to which God is attending. \nThis is a silent retreat. Check-in begins at 4pm on SUNDAY\, and the retreat will begin with an orientation session at 5pm. Silence will begin after dinner. The retreat will end after lunch on Saturday. Mass will be available each day. Lodging and meals are included. \nPlease indicate your preference for a spiritual director in the “Special Needs” part of the online registration form. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. holds a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies\, master’s degree in Religion/Pastoral Ministry\, graduate certificates in spiritual direction and in spirituality studies\, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago\, where her specialization was spirituality and practical theology. Along the way\, Joanne has taught in elementary\, secondary\, undergraduate\, and graduate school settings. She has also served as youth minister\, high school campus minister\, consultant\, writer\, national trainer\, diocesan staff member\, staff member of a graduate school\, spiritual director\, facilitator of retreats\, and professional coach. Joanne has welcomed and worked with many individuals and groups\, serving them as they listen for God’s invitations in their personal and corporate lives. She finds it a privilege to be involved in spiritual and human formation — bringing deep listening\, presence\, creativity\, and a commitment to her own ongoing formation to her work. \nFour other directors TBD – please check back soon.

SUMMARY:RECEIVE: The Freedom to Be
DESCRIPTION:This Juneteenth retreat is an immersive wellness experience centered on freedom\, embodiment\, joy\, and the radical practice of receiving. We will explore what it means to create a life where freedom isn’t simply something we talk about — it is something we can feel in our bodies. Through intentional learning\, storytelling\, mindfulness\, meditation\, music\, contemplative practice\, journaling\, and sound\, we will create space to consider what we are ready to release and what we are finally ready to receive. You will be invited to slow down. To breathe. To listen inward. To honor where you’ve come from. And to imagine what becomes possible when you no longer have to live in constant readiness\, responsibility\, or resistance. \nEXPLORE: What does freedom mean to you now? \nHONOR: Connect with ancestral wisdom\, resilience\, history\, and the people and experiences that have shaped us. \nRELEASE: Identify expectations\, roles\, beliefs\, and burdens that no longer need to come with you. \nEMBODY: Use breath\, mindfulness\, movement\, music\, and sensory experiences to reconnect with your body. \nRECEIVE: Practice allowing yourself to receive rest\, care\, beauty\, joy\, support\, and pleasure without earning it first. \nBE: Close with meditation and a resonant sound bath designed to support deep relaxation and nervous system renewal. \nIT IS TIME TO RECEIVE! What if freedom wasn’t something you had to fight for today? What if\, for a few hours\, you could simply experience it? Freedom to breathe. Freedom to soften. Freedom to receive. Freedom to take up space. Freedom to be. Come rest. Come restore. Come receive. Come home to yourself. Lunch is included. Guided by Teara Booker. \nTeara Booker\, MPH\, CD\, E-RYT 300 is a seasoned wellness practitioner and maternal health expert with over 20 years of experience in public and maternal health. She holds degrees in health\, dispute resolution\, and behavioral management and is extensively trained and certified in a variety of movement and restorative practices. Teara has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and communities through education\, empowerment\, and holistic wellness\, blending her deep understanding of health with evidence-based practices and intuitive guidance. A passionate interdisciplinary educator\, Teara is trained in Ashtanga\, Yin\, Vinyasa\, Restorative Yoga\, and Yoga Nidra\, creating workshops that cultivate mindfulness\, healing\, and self-awareness. Her approach integrates movement\, meditation\, and somatic practices to help participants connect with their bodies\, release tension\, and nurture overall well-being. Through her workshops\, Teara inspires individuals to embrace balance\, cultivate resilience\, and harness their inner strength for lasting wellness.

SUMMARY:Silent Directed Retreat - June 2027
DESCRIPTION:A silent directed retreat provides an opportunity for individuals to spend dedicated time with God and is a rich means of being open to God’s grace and love. Check-in begins at 4pm on Friday\, and the retreat will begin with an orientation session at 5pm. Silence will begin after dinner. The retreat will end after lunch on Thursday. Mass will be available each day. Lodging and meals are included. \nPlease indicate your preference for a spiritual director in the “Special Needs” part of the online registration form. \n  \nFr. Patrick Bergquist\, M.Div.\, MFA.\, MATW — after nearly twenty years as a missionary priest along the Yukon River of Northern Alaska ؅— has turned to look into a wilderness far less charted\, but far more wondrous — that of the human heart and soul. Now a retired priest of the Missionary Diocese of Northern Alaska\, Fairbanks\, he spends his time as a spiritual and retreat director. He holds master’s degrees in Divinity\, Creative Writing\, and Theopoetics\, as well as two certificates in spiritual direction\, including the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. As a writer\, a poet\, and a priest\, he’s written for publications such as Spiritual Life and America Magazine\, as well as authoring a book\, The Long Dark Winter’s Night: Reflections of a Priest in a Time of Pain and Privilege. He is currently working on a spiritual memoir called Springtime Beneath the Snows: Confessions of a Priest-Turn-Poet. \nAmy Sorensen Kulesa\, OFS\, M.Div.\, MSW is a spiritual director\, retreat leader and certified Introspective Breathwork™ facilitator. She earned a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. She is a graduate of the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality\, the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute\, and One Breath Institute. Immersed in both the Bon Secours and Franciscan charisms\, Amy enjoys facilitating retreats in which participants have the opportunity to discern the narrative of their own lives within the larger story of God’s abundant healing\, grace\, and mercy. \nTwo other directors TBD – please check back soon

SUMMARY:Grief Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Revolution of Openness: Experiencing Grief and Loss in a New Era \nThe concept of grieving the loss of loved ones as a journey allows human beings to understand the healing process in stages\, with accompanying tasks\, and with needs that are both universal and unique. Yet there are many faces to grief and many ways of expressing it. Living in a post pandemic world\, grieving as we know it has changed in innumerable ways. As we continue to emerge and move into this new era of living\, our experiences of loss\, change\, and transitions — both as individuals and in communities — have been incredibly impacted. This compels us to intentionally recognize our emotions and reflect upon our experiences to heal and move forward in empowered ways. And\, in solidarity with each other\, we can bravely make steps toward openness to the powerful transformation these losses and our grief work can lead us to. \nJoin us for this one-day retreat as we gather together for deep listening\, meaningful dialogue\, and other contemplative exercises as a means of expressing our grief. Various resources will be offered to uplift participants on their journey as they consider their respective stories. Additionally\, opportunities for considering some of the sacred tasks inherent to grieving the loss of loved ones and other significant transitions will be included. Please bring along a journal for use during the retreat. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a contemplative theologian and creative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. SUMMARY:Art and Wellness Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Rest\, Reflect\, & Reconnect: Creativity for Inner Well-Being \nStep away from the busyness of daily life and join us for a nourishing afternoon of creativity\, reflection\, and renewal. This workshop invites participants to explore art as a form of self-care and mindful expression in a welcoming\, supportive environment. Through simple creative exercises\, guided reflection\, and time outdoors in nature\, participants will have the opportunity to slow down\, reconnect with themselves\, and engage with others in meaningful ways. No artistic experience is needed — only curiosity and a willingness to be present. Together\, we will explore creativity as a pathway to relaxation\, insight\, and restoration. Participants will leave with personal reflections\, creative pieces\, and practices they can continue beyond the retreat experience. All materials will be provided. Guided by Barbara Schubert. \nBarbara Schubert\, MHS is a wellness educator and health promotion professional with a passion for creating meaningful spaces for reflection\, connection\, and personal growth. She currently works at the Wellness Center at Howard Community College\, where she develops holistic wellness programming and supports student wellbeing through creative and community-centered initiatives. Her workshops blend creativity\, reflection\, and gentle wellness practices to help participants reconnect with themselves and cultivate restoration in everyday life.

SUMMARY:Peace Be Still Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Peace be still; Peace be with you; Peace\, I leave you\, my peace I give you.” We have heard these verses a million times. We quote these words and tell friends when they need to hear them. However\, do we REALLY think about how deeply healing these words are? We want peace\, we search for peace…yet somehow it eludes us. We want others to believe we are peaceful\, we have it all together\, or we have enough faith to be at peace. We don’t want to admit that we question\, “Lord\, where is this peace?” \nJoin us as we explore pathways to true inner peace. What better place to do so than the beautiful grounds of Bon Secours? Together\, we will learn how those who came before us found peace\, discover ways to cultivate a life of peace\, and explore spiritual practices and devotions that can help nurture a peaceful spirit. \nThis retreat is for all ages and stages of life. Perhaps you are a young mother juggling countless responsibilities\, recently retired and discerning what comes next\, or navigating one of life’s many challenges — illness\, loneliness\, loss\, or uncertainty. Whatever your circumstances\, you are invited to come and discover your own personal journey to peace. \nThroughout the weekend\, we will engage in short presentations\, group activities\, self-reflection\, and quiet time for contemplation. As part of the retreat\, we will create an acrylic painting together — absolutely no artistic skill is necessary. This guided\, peaceful painting experience will be offered in a relaxed “paint and sip” style. You will take your painting home with you\, and it is my hope that it will serve as a lasting reminder that the spirit of peace is always with you\, quietly whispering\, “Peace\, be still.” Guided by Susan Warnick Breslin. \nLodging and meals are included. \nSusan Warnick Breslin\, MSN\, RN\, CPN\, CSD is a graduate of the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute and an associate of Bon Secours. Susan has been a pediatric nurse caring for children with traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries for 40 years. She now is a nursing professor at Johns Hopkins and Anne Arundel Community College. Her career began working with Dr. Benjamin Carson at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She was profoundly affected by what she experienced there and in her personal life. Demonstrating compassion\, concern\, and understanding became her motivation for remaining in an emotionally draining specialty for so many years. Susan knew she could not change the situation but focused on easing the emotional and physical toll on these families any way she could\, listening to them and offering them peace. She has facilitated support groups for parents of children with brain tumors\, young widows\, care givers\, and bereavement. Through these experiences\, she felt called to become a spiritual director. She now sees clients through her Soul Friend Ministry\, where her focus is on spiritual peace in all phases of life. She guides clients to practice peace and forgiveness through surrender\, detachment\, faith\, and assurance through Our Lord\, The Prince of Peace. She is also co-founder of The Von-Hippel Lindau Alliance\, an organization dedicated to the diagnosis\, treatment\, and quality of life for individuals affected by Von-Hippel Lindau disease.

SUMMARY:From Mother to Daughter - An Inheritance of the Heart
DESCRIPTION:Exploring Love\, Stories and Strength from Mother to Daughter \nOne of the most powerful relationships in life is that between a mother and daughter. It can be deeply rewarding\, soul-inspiring\, and filled with profound love\, yet it is often layered\, nuanced\, and complex. This retreat will explore what makes this relationship both beautiful and challenging. Together\, we will examine how mothers can nurture resilience\, wisdom\, and courage in their daughters\, passing on a legacy of fearless strength through life’s triumphs\, transitions and heartaches. Lunch is included. Guided by Marcia McMullin. \nMarcia McMullin\, MA\, RN is a “retired registered nurse turned retreat leader” with a passion for creating spaces where individuals can connect with their inner selves. As the founder of Wrensong Retreats\, Marcia’s mission is to help others find their soul’s song. Among the retreats she offers\, the annual program for breast cancer survivors at Bon Secours holds a special place in her heart as a time of upliftment and community for all who attend. Residing in Westminster\, MD\, Marcia cherishes the life she’s built with her husband of 41 years and 13 wonderful grandchildren\, who remind her daily of the beauty of living in the moment. Marcia earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stevenson University in 1999\, followed by a master’s degree in Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Spring Arbor University in Michigan in 2011. Her approach to retreat leadership is highly interactive\, and she finds immense joy in learning from the participants who enrich her journey. Looking ahead\, she aspires to continue creating spaces for both herself and others\, allowing souls the freedom to embrace their own unique song. \n
