SUMMARY:SoulCollage®
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in a weekend of exploring your intuition and imagination through collage making. The SoulCollage® process invites you to browse through piles of images and magazines to find pictures which call to you. Create or expand upon your visual journal through your personal deck of collaged cards. With SoulCollage® cards\, you can illustrate your lived experiences\, personality parts\, companions and supports\, archetypal patterns\, and spiritual guides. Insights emerge as you engage in “stepping into” imagery and speaking from it in a safe and supportive community of fellow collage-creators. This retreat is open to those just beginning to work with SoulCollage®\, as well as to those experienced in using it. Instruction on the concepts and structure of the SoulCollage® technique will be provided\, while those who are already familiar with it can expand their work with collage. Facilitator Roberta Rook customizes her annual retreats with a theme that offers a further deepening of the SoulCollage® experience. Ample time will be provided for self and soul-tending through labyrinth walks\, mindful relaxation\, and exploration of the beautiful grounds of the Retreat Center. Connect with the vibrancy and renewal of the spring/summer season by “watering your soul” with SoulCollage®! Guided by Roberta Rook. \nMeals and lodging are included. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch at 1pm on Sunday. Mass will be available Sunday morning for those who wish to attend. \nRoberta Rook\, MA\, LCPC is a professional counselor with over 30 years of experience in the counseling field. For the past 25 years\, she has worked as a bereavement counselor and program coordinator for Hospice of the Chesapeake in Maryland. She has been a SoulCollage® Facilitator since 2006\, and she was a SoulCollage® Facilitator Trainer from 2008-2016. She currently leads SoulCollage® groups\, both privately and in the hospice bereavement setting.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. Every virtual session is held from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.)\nPlease email Joanne at jmcahooneph3@gmail.com for the Zoom sessions invitation for Virtual sessions. \nQuiet mornings provide an opportunity for quiet – for reflection\, prayer\, listening\, presence – in common with others. Perhaps you’d like to carve out time\, but could use the support of a structure that is also flexible? Most of us could! And there is encouragement and strength in coming together in this way. You are welcome whenever matches your schedule/desire/need. \nEach gathering is bracketed by an opening and closing prayer. The quiet hour at its heart is not scripted or guided. Each one enters the quiet and utilizes or follows it as she/he desires to do so. Some opt to journal\, read\, walk; to engage in meditation; imaginative prayer or centering prayer; art or collage; or physical movement. The commitment to enter the quiet with some regularity as an ongoing practice is the point. By doing so in companionship with others\, we support each other’s journey just by willingly being present in God’s presence together\, and hoping good for each other. In our closing prayer\, we pray a blessing for each other. Please feel welcome! Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. – spiritual director\, retreat leader\, coach – facilitates the Quiet Mornings.

SUMMARY:Silent Directed Retreat - June 2027
DESCRIPTION:A silent directed retreat provides an opportunity for individuals to spend dedicated time with God and is a rich means of being open to God’s grace and love. Unlike a conference or guided retreat\, there are not group sessions or daily presentations. Instead\, the ‘content’ of the retreat is your own ongoing relationship with God. Individuals meet daily with a spiritual director\, whose aim is to collaborate with the work of the Spirit as together you reflect on God’s presence and movement in your life. Spiritual directors may make suggestions related to your conversations (prayer forms\, Scripture\, reading materials\, quotes\, questions\, wonderings) to support and deepen your experience and awareness of God with you. The rhythm of the day is decided by each individual and may include walks\, reading\, writing\, art-making\, mindful movement\, liturgy\, etc. The Retreat Center affords plenty of places and spaces for prayer\, with beauty abounding. We come to directed retreats as individuals and as part of a community of others who are also seeking and listening. This spiritual community joins you in silence\, offering support by being prayerfully aware of all the individual journeys\, gifts\, and needs to which God is attending. \nThis is a silent retreat. Check-in begins at 4pm on Friday\, and the retreat will begin with an orientation session at 5pm. Silence will begin after dinner. The retreat will end after lunch on Thursday. Mass will be available each day. Lodging and meals are included. \nPlease indicate your preference for a spiritual director in the “Special Needs” part of the online registration form. \n  \nFr. Patrick Bergquist\, M.Div.\, MFA.\, MATW — after nearly twenty years as a missionary priest along the Yukon River of Northern Alaska ؅— has turned to look into a wilderness far less charted\, but far more wondrous — that of the human heart and soul. Now a retired priest of the Missionary Diocese of Northern Alaska\, Fairbanks\, he spends his time as a spiritual and retreat director. He holds master’s degrees in Divinity\, Creative Writing\, and Theopoetics\, as well as two certificates in spiritual direction\, including the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. As a writer\, a poet\, and a priest\, he’s written for publications such as Spiritual Life and America Magazine\, as well as authoring a book\, The Long Dark Winter’s Night: Reflections of a Priest in a Time of Pain and Privilege. He is currently working on a spiritual memoir called Springtime Beneath the Snows: Confessions of a Priest-Turn-Poet. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. holds a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies\, master’s degree in Religion/Pastoral Ministry\, graduate certificates in spiritual direction and in spirituality studies\, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago\, where her specialization was spirituality and practical theology. Along the way\, Joanne has taught in elementary\, secondary\, undergraduate\, and graduate school settings. She has also served as youth minister\, high school campus minister\, consultant\, writer\, national trainer\, diocesan staff member\, staff member of a graduate school\, spiritual director\, facilitator of retreats\, and professional coach. Joanne has welcomed and worked with many individuals and groups\, serving them as they listen for God’s invitations in their personal and corporate lives. She finds it a privilege to be involved in spiritual and human formation — bringing deep listening\, presence\, creativity\, and a commitment to her own ongoing formation to her work. \nAmy Sorensen Kulesa\, OFS\, M.Div.\, MSW is a spiritual director\, retreat leader and certified Introspective Breathwork™ facilitator. She earned a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. She is a graduate of the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality\, the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute\, and One Breath Institute. Immersed in both the Bon Secours and Franciscan charisms\, Amy enjoys facilitating retreats in which participants have the opportunity to discern the narrative of their own lives within the larger story of God’s abundant healing\, grace\, and mercy. \nTwo other directors TBD – please check back soon

SUMMARY:RECEIVE: The Freedom to Be
DESCRIPTION:This Juneteenth retreat is an immersive wellness experience centered on freedom\, embodiment\, joy\, and the radical practice of receiving. We will explore what it means to create a life where freedom isn’t simply something we talk about — it is something we can feel in our bodies. Through intentional learning\, storytelling\, mindfulness\, meditation\, music\, contemplative practice\, journaling\, and sound\, we will create space to consider what we are ready to release and what we are finally ready to receive. You will be invited to slow down. To breathe. To listen inward. To honor where you’ve come from. And to imagine what becomes possible when you no longer have to live in constant readiness\, responsibility\, or resistance. \nEXPLORE: What does freedom mean to you now? \nHONOR: Connect with ancestral wisdom\, resilience\, history\, and the people and experiences that have shaped us. \nRELEASE: Identify expectations\, roles\, beliefs\, and burdens that no longer need to come with you. \nEMBODY: Use breath\, mindfulness\, movement\, music\, and sensory experiences to reconnect with your body. \nRECEIVE: Practice allowing yourself to receive rest\, care\, beauty\, joy\, support\, and pleasure without earning it first. \nBE: Close with meditation and a resonant sound bath designed to support deep relaxation and nervous system renewal. \nIT IS TIME TO RECEIVE! What if freedom wasn’t something you had to fight for today? What if\, for a few hours\, you could simply experience it? Freedom to breathe. Freedom to soften. Freedom to receive. Freedom to take up space. Freedom to be. Come rest. Come restore. Come receive. Come home to yourself. Lunch is included. Guided by Teara Booker. \nTeara Booker\, MPH\, CD\, E-RYT 300 is a seasoned wellness practitioner and maternal health expert with over 20 years of experience in public and maternal health. She holds degrees in health\, dispute resolution\, and behavioral management and is extensively trained and certified in a variety of movement and restorative practices. Teara has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and communities through education\, empowerment\, and holistic wellness\, blending her deep understanding of health with evidence-based practices and intuitive guidance. A passionate interdisciplinary educator\, Teara is trained in Ashtanga\, Yin\, Vinyasa\, Restorative Yoga\, and Yoga Nidra\, creating workshops that cultivate mindfulness\, healing\, and self-awareness. Her approach integrates movement\, meditation\, and somatic practices to help participants connect with their bodies\, release tension\, and nurture overall well-being. Through her workshops\, Teara inspires individuals to embrace balance\, cultivate resilience\, and harness their inner strength for lasting wellness.

SUMMARY:Silent Directed Retreat - July 2027
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: There is a MISPRINT in Bridges for this retreat. Bridges has correct dates but incorrectly says the retreat is from Friday – Thursday. Correct dates are SUNDAY\, July 11 – SATURDAY\, July 17. Our apologies for the error.\nA silent directed retreat provides an opportunity for individuals to spend dedicated time with God and is a rich means of being open to God’s grace and love. Check-in begins at 4pm on SUNDAY\, and the retreat will begin with an orientation session at 5pm. Silence will begin after dinner. The retreat will end after lunch on Saturday. Mass will be available each day. Lodging and meals are included. \nPlease indicate your preference for a spiritual director in the “Special Needs” part of the online registration form. \nFour other directors TBD – please check back soon.

SUMMARY:Summer Sabbatical Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Excavate Your Soul \nA sabbatical is a sacred pause: a chance to listen beneath the surface of everyday life and notice what has been buried under busyness and achievement. Modern research similarly frames sabbaticals as more than time away: they can support mental and physical well-being\, creativity\, confidence\, new perspectives\, and profound personal and/or professional shifts. \nSummer Sabbatical is for anyone who yearns to step away from the constant hum of productivity and begin the deeper work of remembering who they are. A major cornerstone of the retreat will be a digital detox. Participants will turn off devices in favor of research-backed\, time-honored modalities that support the brain and body. Across three spacious days\, Summer Sabbatical invites you to answer larger questions: What am I here to do? What big dreams do I have? What am I being called toward? What needs to be let go? What systems can support me? Blending solitude\, thought-provoking exercises\, reflective journaling\, long-term planning\, yoga\, meditation\, nature\, community\, and meaningful sharing\, this retreat creates room for clarity to emerge. Expect to dream big and brainstorm with an eye to the future. You will not be inundated with heavy professional development. Instead\, plan to “excavate your soul” through a series of guided exercises that allow you to tune into that deep and lasting wisdom that has always been inside of you. You will leave not merely refreshed\, but reoriented with a renewed understanding of the life you are meant to live and a fleshed-out plan to help get you there. \n

SUMMARY:Converging Upon Compassion: A Weekend Interfaith Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Our human compassion binds us the one to the other…as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future.” —Nelson Mandela \n“Compassion is the language of God. Let us learn to live with kindness\, to love everyone\, even when they do not love us.” —Pope Francis \nIn these times\, compassion is a word that is heard frequently in many spaces as a necessity for building community\, but what does it actually mean to live compassionately? \nThe wisdom present in our world’s diverse religions provides humanity with inspiring and practical ways to embody compassion in daily life. In fact\, there is a distinct convergence around compassion as each of these faith traditions regards it as intrinsic to how human beings should interact with each other. While some regard this virtue as a divine mandate or a path to enlightenment\, several interpret it as a collective responsibility because of the way it powerfully connects individuals\, communities\, and even nations. \nJoin us for a weekend retreat that will explore several transformative teachings on compassion from an interfaith perspective\, including Christian\, Jewish\, and Islamic viewpoints alongside touchstones from Buddhist and Indigenous traditions. Through contemplative prayer\, writing prompts\, group dialogue\, and other creative exercises\, participants will spend time engaging in ways to embody compassion more fully in their lives and self-expression. There will also be ample time for personal reflection in between presentations for deepening one’s experience with the spiritual practices of compassion considered throughout the weekend. Rituals woven into the retreat will create opportunities for participants to experience self-compassion while also envisioning how they can cultivate it in their encounters with all of Creation. \nPlease bring along an open mind and heart for this journey! A journal and comfortable shoes will make great companions for this weekend. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nMeals and lodging are included. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch at 1pm on Monday. Mass will be available Sunday and Monday mornings for those who wish to attend. \n\n \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a creative and contemplative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently\, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute. Gordon has facilitated numerous retreats and workshops that focus on creating opportunities for participants to explore and enhance their spirituality and well-being through various media and formats. He also participates as a peer group leader in the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation’s Transforming Community Program. His passions include uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community\, as well as fostering support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Trained as a spiritual director/companion\, end-of-life doula\, and Reiki practitioner\, Gordon welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, expanding\, and flourishing. SUMMARY:Dreaming Your Dream of Peace
DESCRIPTION:“Dreaming Your Dream of Peace” is a unique interactive group participation program. The participants will consider questions about how each of them perceives “peace” from their own lives and the wider world. Then those responses will build into an “inventory” of peace building to refer to in their future peace making. The participants also will each form an “article” of peace\, using artwork materials that will be provided (pipe cleaners\, play dough\, stickers\, construction paper\, etc.). Then the program will conclude with a list of items that form a peace building/ peace making outlook/ approach. The program is conducted in small groups and involves much conversation. Guided by Chuck Michaels and Jaymie Litsey. \nChuck Michaels\, Esq. has been the volunteer coordinator for Pax Christi Baltimore since its founding more than 40 years ago. The group sponsors programs\, vigils\, prayer services\, workshops\, protests\, and other peace and justice activities in the Baltimore area. He has also been on the National Council for Pax Christi USA for six years and is a member of the regional council for Pax Christi Metro DC-Baltimore. He was Coordinator for Peace and Justice for the Archdiocese of Baltimore for four years (1982-1986)\, a member of the planning committee of the Annual Archdiocese Social Ministry Convocation (1983-2024)\, and former program manager for Beyond the Boundaries\, an Archdiocesan program advocating for affordable housing in the Baltimore region. He was also a member of the Institute of Islamic\, Christian and Jewish Studies (ICJS) Justice Leaders Fellowship program from 2023-2024. He is the Vice President of the St. Peter’s Cemetery Restoration Fund Board\, connected to Jonah House (a community founded by the late Phil Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister). He is the author of No Greater Threat: America After September 11 and the Rise of a National Security State (Algora Publishing\, 2002). He is a member of the Catholic Community at Relay. \nJaymie Litsey has over 25 years of training\, facilitation\, and change management experience. Her journey as a peace advocate began 20 years ago. SUMMARY:8-Day Ignatian Silent Directed Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The 8-Day Ignatian Silent Directed Retreat will be the only group in-house at the Retreat Center during these dates! \nThe Ignatian Directed Retreat will be privileged time for you to deepen your relationship with God. You will be assigned a trained spiritual director with whom you will meet briefly each day to discern the movements of God in your life as revealed through your prayer. \nThe “direction” of directed retreats is that of discovering and exploring your own journey in faith and life and what path better helps you go in the direction you seek and Jesus invites. Embedded in the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola\, your retreat is made with a retreat director who supports\, listens\, and has made the journey before. For those who are able\, daily walks with Ignatian teachings will also be available. Aside from these daily conversations and the time you set aside for your own personal prayer\, your retreat time is unstructured. Mass will be available throughout the week. \nThis is a silent retreat. Check-in begins at 4pm\, and the retreat will begin with an orientation session at 5pm. The retreat will end after lunch on Saturday. \nPlease check back for a list of directors and their bios. \n

SUMMARY:Savoring Summer: A Self-Care Day for Women
DESCRIPTION:Late summer is nature’s soft exhale — a gentle pause between the outward energy of summer and the inward pull of autumn. It’s a season for centering\, grounding\, and savoring life’s simple abundance. In Chinese medicine\, this “fifth season” invites us to come back to center\, root into the present\, and nourish ourselves deeply before the busyness of the next cycle begins. In this restorative one-day retreat for women\, we’ll gather for guided meditation\, reflective journaling\, time in nature\, art-making\, and restful pauses. You will have space to breathe\, listen inwardly\, and replenish your energy — releasing the need to “do” and embracing the pleasure of simply “being.” Lunch is included. Guided by Michelle Lisenbee. \nMichelle Lisenbee\, RN\, BSN\, HNB-BC\, LMT is a holistic registered nurse\, a board-certified licensed massage therapist\, and mixed media collage artist from Savage\, MD. She received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from George Mason University\, her massage training at the Baltimore School of Massage\, and her Board Certification from the American Holistic Nurses Association. Her training has included various bodywork and holistic therapies over the years. Michelle is also a self-taught mixed media artist who believes that connection is where healing happens. Exploring ways to cultivate space for connection both in her own life and the lives of others is her calling. She currently works at a small primary care practice in Montgomery County as well as offering workshops and retreats at various local venues. SUMMARY:Living the Questions: A Second Half of Life Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The second half of life is not about age. It is a mindset and a way of being — an invitation to become more awake to our lives\, more honest about the questions we carry\, and more willing to loosen our grip on certainty and control. \nDuring this weekend retreat\, we will explore what it means to remain present to the questions emerging within us without rushing to resolve them. Through teaching\, reflection\, conversation\, creative practices\, movement\, and rest\, participants will draw upon the intellectual\, emotional\, relational\, embodied\, intuitive\, and spiritual wisdom available to us. \nTogether\, we will consider what we may be ready to release\, what remains unfinished\, and what is asking to take shape in the next season of our lives. We will practice cooperating with reality\, listening beneath the noise of expectation and obligation\, and moving toward a more integrated and authentic way of being. \nParticipants will leave with renewed clarity\, practices for continued discernment\, and a personally meaningful next step. Guided by Arianne Rice. \n  \nArianne Rice\, MDiv\, CDWF\, ACC is a leadership coach\, facilitator\, and Episcopal priest who has led retreats and workshops for over 20 years. Her work integrates spiritual wisdom with practical tools for emotional intelligence\, courageous communication\, and authentic leadership. Arianne is an ICF-certified coach\, a certified facilitator of The Daring Way™ (Brené Brown’s research-based methodology)\, and an emotional intelligence practitioner. She creates reflective spaces where participants can explore vulnerability\, deepen their faith\, and reconnect with their truest selves. Arianne also hosts the podcast Feeling Beings Who Think\, which explores the inner journey of leadership and personal growth.

SUMMARY:The Sacred Journey of Conscious Breath
DESCRIPTION:Embodiment and Healing \nIn this weekend experiential retreat\, participants will be invited into a profound and intimate encounter with the many dimensions of our personal and communal relationship with life through conscious breathing. Together\, we will explore traditions of breathwork and the emerging scientific understanding supporting breathwork’s healing potential. Throughout the weekend\, in large group\, dyadic\, and individual somatic and breathwork experiences\, we will come to see and feel how conscious breathing can be a catalyst for profound integration of body\, heart\, mind\, and spirit. Participants will be asked to sign a release form\, but all ages and physical abilities are welcomed and can be accommodated to the activities of the weekend. Come and encounter your own depths and the preciousness of who you are\, breath by breath. Guided by Michael Breslin and Amy Sorensen Kulesa. \nMichael Breslin\, GPBA is a Certified Breathwork Practitioner. Integrative Breathwork is a powerful modality for experiencing the physical\, emotional\, and cognitive reality of our deep yearning to be authentically real. In his individual and group sessions\, he guides participants to experience the breath as a doorway to optimal wellness\, truth\, and presence. He believes that breathing consciously allows us to experience the transcendent quality of the ordinary and the deep-felt sense that everyday experience is inherently abundant with Life Force. \nAmy Sorensen Kulesa\, OFS\, MDiv\, MSW is a spiritual director\, retreat leader and certified Introspective Breathwork™ facilitator.
