SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer: Sr. Sara Dwyer
DESCRIPTION:Walk in the Light of Jesus \nAdvent is a season of waiting\, watching\, and preparing that happens in the ‘darkness of winter.’ It is a season that embraces darkness\, stillness\, and reflectiveness. We will consider various aspects of life that reflect the Scriptural themes of Advent. God’s Word invites us to open to a new discipleship\, where we can more fully see\, understand\, and walk the path of Light. \nGod’s voice is often faint or unclear because it isn’t what we expected or wanted to hear. Perhaps we have settled for a religious complacency overshadowed by comfort or conformity. \nHoliness is a challenging mission. Advent reminds us we don’t journey alone. We so often need a faith community and trusted family and friends. We need to find companions to be with us on the journey\, so we can\, as Isaiah says\, “walk in the Light of the Lord.” Guided by Sr. Sara Dwyer. \nAll are welcome to attend the Friends Day of Prayer retreats\, held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. It is not required to attend every month\, so register for one or more sessions as your schedule allows. While the presenters and topics vary\, each Friends Day of Prayer typically includes pastries and conversation at 9:30am\, a morning presentation at 10am\, an optional Mass\, a delicious lunch\, short periods of free time to enjoy the grounds or shop in the bookstore\, and an afternoon presentation. \nSr. Sara Dwyer\, ASC has been a member of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ\, an International Congregation\, for 55 years. Sr. Sara has served in various adult faith formation positions during those years. She was a member of her congregational leadership team and served as their Justice\, Peace\, and Integrity of Creation contact for over 10 years. Sara served eight years as the Director of the Washington Retreat House in Washington\, DC. In January 2025\, she accepted a ministry role within her community\, where she continues to offer retreats and other faith formation programs. Sara holds a master’s degree in Theology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and a master’s in Education from Boston College. Sara enjoys interacting with people\, reading\, retreat ministry\, and taking nature walks.

SUMMARY:Testify to the Light: A Challenge for Christians
DESCRIPTION:At this time in your life\, what challenges come to you because you believe in Jesus’ witness? \nPresent-day realities — personally\, nationally\, and globally — invite us to “testify to the Light” in the midst of darkness as Jesus did. We are often faced with the unknown and unclear\, which can stir doubt\, confusion\, fear\, or complacency. Advent is a season that invites us to embrace darkness as a way of allowing LIGHT to illuminate the truth and shine through the darkness. We believe: Jesus “came as a witness\, to testify about the Light\, so that all might believe through him.” (John 1:7) \nWe will be in stillness and reflectiveness as we contemplate the Mystery of the Incarnation and the hope and gratitude it offers us on our faith journey. May this retreat be an experience that enhances our faith journey\, so we can more fully see\, understand\, and walk through Advent on the path of Light. \nCheck-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch on Sunday. Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel on Sunday morning for those who would like to attend. Guided by Sr. Sara Dwyer. \nNote: This retreat has a natural flow from the Friends Day of Prayer on December 2 but adds more depth. \nSr. Sara Dwyer\, ASC has been a member of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ\, an International Congregation\, for 55 years. Sr. Sara has served in various adult faith formation positions during those years. SUMMARY:Advent Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“The Lord will come and he will not delay.” (Cf. Habakkuk 2:3) \nAdvent is about waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus\, commemorating his birth/first coming and also anticipating the second coming of Christ. But our Christian faith tells us that God is with us\, already and still. This holy season invites us to encounter God in the present\, in the day-to-day of our lives. Set aside some personal time and join us for a quiet day of prayer this Advent\, a season of both hopeful waiting and encountering God who is ever present. \nThe day will begin with reflective input by Sr. Bernie\, followed by time for private prayer and reflection\, lunch in silence\, the option of walking the labyrinth or beautiful grounds\, journaling\, or just relaxing with God. The atmosphere for the day will be reverent silence\, which allows us to encounter God and be attuned to God’s promptings. There will be the opportunity to attend Mass if you wish. The day will close with us coming together to name the blessings of the day and for a closing prayer. Lunch is included. This will be a day of silence. Guided by Sr. Bernie Claps. \nSr. Bernadette Claps\, MSW is a Sister of Bon Secours and provides spiritual direction and spiritual companionship at the Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center. She holds graduate certificates in Spiritual Direction\, Spirituality\, and Aging.  She has done graduate studies in theology and received a Master of Social Work from New York University.

SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and 4th Saturday. Every virtual session is held from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.)\nPlease email Joanne at jmcahooneph3@gmail.com for the Zoom sessions invitation for Virtual sessions. \nQuiet mornings provide an opportunity for quiet – for reflection\, prayer\, listening\, presence – in common with others. Perhaps you’d like to carve out time\, but could use the support of a structure that is also flexible? Most of us could! And there is encouragement and strength in coming together in this way. You are welcome whenever matches your schedule/desire/need. \nEach gathering is bracketed by an opening and closing prayer. The quiet hour at its heart is not scripted or guided. Each one enters the quiet and utilizes or follows it as she/he desires to do so. Some opt to journal\, read\, walk; to engage in meditation; imaginative prayer or centering prayer; art or collage; or physical movement. The commitment to enter the quiet with some regularity as an ongoing practice is the point. By doing so in companionship with others\, we support each other’s journey just by willingly being present in God’s presence together\, and hoping good for each other. In our closing prayer\, we pray a blessing for each other. Please feel welcome! Guided by Joanne Cahoon. \nJoanne Cahoon\, D.Min. – spiritual director\, retreat leader\, coach – facilitates the Quiet Mornings.

SUMMARY:Grief Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Please note that the presenter and program description for this retreat have changed from what was printed in the Spring 2026 issue of Bridges.\nTending Sacredly to Your Grief Amidst the Holiday Season \n“Let your holiday grief be what it is. And let yourself — your new\, grieving self — be who you are.” —Alan D. Wolfelt\, Author & Grief Companion \nThe holidays can be an especially challenging time for those who are grieving. Whether your loss is through death\, a transition\, or another significant life change — the end of a relationship\, a job or career\, a home\, or a way of life — grief can feel especially tender and overwhelming during the holidays and the surrounding winter season. As the year reaches its close and the expected holiday excitement builds\, we may become increasingly aware of both what has been lost or changed and what we long to always remember in our hearts. \nIf you find yourself at this threshold\, please join us for this day-long retreat\, which offers a safe and sacred space to acknowledge your grief in your own voice\, practice self-compassion\, and discover meaningful ways to move through the arriving season with greater peace and intention. During our time together\, we will explore various expressions of grief during this time of year through personal reflection\, contemplative exercises\, and communal rituals. We will also engage with the spiritual practices of setting intentions and creating boundaries as we continue navigating our journey of grief in such a season. \nAs a community\, we will also consider the wisdom and healing possible through creating new traditions and meaningful rituals\, which serve to honor what has been lost while also making space to welcome hope\, connection\, and resting in the present. Please bring along comfortable clothes and shoes for some optional time in nature\, weather depending. A journal will also serve as a helpful companion on this retreat. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a contemplative theologian and creative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently\, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute. Gordon has facilitated numerous retreats and workshops that focus on creating opportunities for participants to explore and enhance their spirituality and well-being through various media and formats. He also participates as a peer group leader in the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation’s Transforming Community Program. His passions include uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community\, as well as fostering support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Trained as a spiritual director/companion\, end-of-life doula\, and Reiki practitioner\, Gordon welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, expanding\, and flourishing. SUMMARY:Journeying to the Heart of the Nativity with a Celtic Spirit
DESCRIPTION:As you set your intentions this Advent to honor the Incarnation of God’s Love and celebrate the holiday season\, what would it be like to do so with a Celtic spirit? What graces and gifts could be waiting for you at the heart of the Nativity by incorporating some of the rituals\, music\, and perspectives of the ancient Celtic way into your annual traditions? \nJoin us for a day-long retreat that invites you to explore Celtic spirituality with its intimate connection to the heartbeat of God and Mother Earth and its reverencing of the returning light at the Winter Solstice. Throughout the program\, participants will be engaged in cherished Celtic legends about the birth of Christ and their intersection with various Christian saints from this tradition. Additionally\, time will be spent participating in practices from Celtic spirituality that touch both the senses and the soul while offering moments for creating personal meaning. \nDuring each of these activities and exercises\, participants will have opportunities for contemplation and prayer\, group dialogue\, and mirthful expression related to all that is explored personally and within community. While this retreat is similar in theme to last year’s Celtic Advent retreat\, the content offered will be different. Participants from the 2025 retreat are encouraged to register if interested. Lunch is included. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nIn the Celtic spirit of blessing others: \nThe Light of the Christmas Star to you\, the warmth of home and hearth to you\, the hope of a childlike heart to you\, and the joy of a thousand angels to you… \n\nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. SUMMARY:New Year’s Eve Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Humor and Laughter: Divine Gifts \nFinding humor in both the joyful experiences and challenging situations in life — and embracing the freedom to laugh — are important elements of a healthy and balanced spirituality. The closing of one year and the opening of a new is a wonderful opportunity to explore our spiritual life through these elements. On this threshold of “what has been and what will be\,” we will explore how the joyful sound of laughter calls us to action. We will discuss where humor can be a powerful testimony. We will answer together what it means to be a collective chorus and how we can make laughter an intentional practice. Bring the joys and sorrows of the year as we join with friends\, old and new\, to reflect\, heal\, look forward\, and yes\, have more than a few laughs! Lunch is included. \nAndrea Springer\, MA has spent many years in executive administration and formation. She is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland\, now Notre Dame of Maryland University\, with both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Liberal Arts and Religious Studies. In addition to being a graduate of the University\, she is an adjunct faculty member. Andrea designs and facilitates workshops and retreats for a variety of organizations and has been a popular presenter for Women’s Wellness and other Bon Secours retreats.

SUMMARY:Virtual Epiphany Mini Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The lore surrounding the Magi has fascinated generations of believers and seekers for countless centuries. Couched in the mystique of the Christmas story\, the role of these wise astrologers has evolved over time for individuals and communities as their personal meaning and contributions have been explored.  Join us on the Epiphany (or “Little Christmas” as it is known) for a mini retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. During our gathering together via Zoom\, those present will consider information about these ancient figures and their legacy while applying the gift of their star-inspired journey to each participant’s respective story. Moreover\, there will be opportunities to engage in prayer\, contemplation\, music\, and other meaningful exercises for a deeper appreciation of how the Magi offer a unique spiritual treasure to our perennial celebration of Christmas and what it means to live life as a journey. \nPlease bring a journal for use throughout the virtual program. Participants are welcome to decorate their Zoom space before the program begins with sacred art\, ornaments\, or artifacts that personally symbolize the Epiphany or Magi for them. \nThis is a virtual program. When registering for this virtual program\, please provide the email address to which we should send the Zoom Meeting link. If you don’t receive the Zoom Meeting information by the day before the session\, please contact the Welcome Center at 410-442-3120. Guided by Gordon Creamer. \nGordon Creamer\, MA\, creator of the Mission Bridge\, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey\, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville\, MD. As a creative and contemplative builder\, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living\, skilled nursing\, and hospice communities. SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday.

SUMMARY:Winter Directed Retreat\, 3-night stay
DESCRIPTION:A silent directed retreat provides an opportunity for individuals to spend dedicated time with God and is a rich means of being open to God’s grace and love. Unlike a conference or guided retreat\, there are not group sessions or daily presentations. Instead\, the ‘content’ of the retreat is your own ongoing relationship with God. Individuals meet daily with a spiritual director\, whose aim is to collaborate with the work of the Spirit as together you reflect on God’s presence and movement in your life. Spiritual directors may make suggestions related to your conversations (prayer forms\, Scripture\, reading materials\, quotes\, questions\, wonderings) to support and deepen your experience and awareness of God with you. The rhythm of the day is decided by each individual and may include walks\, reading\, writing\, art-making\, mindful movement\, liturgy\, etc. The Retreat Center affords plenty of places and spaces for prayer\, with beauty abounding. We come to directed retreats as individuals and as part of a community of others who are also seeking and listening. This spiritual community joins you in silence\, offering support by being prayerfully aware of all the individual journeys\, gifts\, and needs to which God is attending. \nBegin the new year by focusing on your path ahead and tuning into God’s voice. Our winter directed retreat consists of two days (3-night stay) of spiritual direction. Retreatants will meet with a spiritual director daily (or less if you desire) to reflect on God’s presence and movement in your life as revealed in prayer\, the events and relationships in your life\, and the response to God that is being made. The spiritual director may make suggestions (prayer forms\, Scripture\, reading materials\, etc.) to support and deepen your awareness of and response to God. \nAside from the introductory session and your spiritual direction meetings\, you will be on your own to experience a weekend of personal reflection. Mass will be available on Sunday and Monday. Guided by Fr. Jim McBurney\, Amy Sorensen Kulesa\, and Sr. Pat Mensing. \nThis is a silent retreat. Check-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch on Monday. \nPlease indicate your preference for a spiritual director in the “Special Needs” part of the online registration form. \nTo register for the 6-Night Directed Retreat option instead\, please click here. \nFr. Jim McBurney is a priest of the Order of St. Augustine. He currently serves as Novice Director for the Augustinians\, having previously done vocation and formation ministry for his community. In addition\, he has served in parishes and province administration and has been engaged in retreat ministry and spiritual direction for many years. \nAmy Sorensen Kulesa\, OFS\, M.Div.\, MSW is a spiritual director\, retreat leader and certified Introspective Breathwork™ facilitator. She is a graduate of the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality\, the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute\, and One Breath Institute. Immersed in both the Bon Secours and Franciscan charisms\, Amy enjoys facilitating retreats in which participants have the opportunity to discern the narrative of their own lives within the larger story of God’s abundant healing\, grace\, and mercy. \nSr. Pat Mensing is a Sister of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia and holds a master’s degree in Theology from St. Michael’s College in Colchester\, VT\, and a Certificate in Ignatian Spiritual Direction and Directed Retreats from Creighton University. She taught in elementary and secondary levels before serving in parish ministry in the fields of social justice and outreach in metro DC. Sr. Pat now lives in the Philadelphia area and works full time in spirituality ministry. She gives directed retreats\, the 19th Annotation\, days and evenings of reflection to parishes and schools\, and offers individual spiritual direction both in-person and virtual formats.

SUMMARY:Returning to You: A Somatic Restart for the New Year
DESCRIPTION:You are wise. You are powerful. You have everything you need inside you. How would our new year be different if we believed and lived these statements — not just in our minds\, but in our bodies and souls? Often life has us rushing so fast and is so loud we cannot hear the enlightened\, intuitive whisper within us. Grounded in somatic work\, we will spend our day returning to our own powerful wisdom. As we let go of what no longer served us in the past\, we will ground into the present and invite in the future of our dreams. This is a space to show up exactly as you are\, in all of your beauty and mess. Bring your uncertainty\, joy\, grief\, hope\, fear\, and every other feeling or sensation that swirls through you. Participants are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothing and are invited to bring a yoga mat\, beach towel\, blankets\, pillows\, a journal\, or anything else that helps you feel cozy and safe (we will have extras\, so no need to purchase any of these items). Lunch is included. Guided by Karen Bortvedt Estrada. \nKaren Bortvedt Estrada is a Somatic Stress Release Practitioner. Whether it is chronic pain\, mental health struggles\, insomnia\, or just feeling off\, Karen blends her training in somatics\, nonviolent communication\, and mindfulness to support clients in tending to their nervous system to help them find relief and gain more capacity to navigate the ups and downs of life. In addition to being certified in Somatic Stress Release\, Karen is a Restorative Justice Circle Keeper and Mindfulness Practitioner. She is certified in Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion in the workplace\, credentialed in Mindfulness and Neurodiversity\, and trained in Nonviolent Communication. Prior to a career shift to somatics and mindfulness\, she spent over a decade working cross-culturally\, both domestically and internationally\, in a variety of nonprofit organizations. One common thread through her previous roles was holding space for others and collaborating to build networks of support. After seeing and experiencing how systems in our world are often built to disconnect us from ourselves\, Karen shifted her focus to supporting folks in returning to their own internal wisdom. In her spare time\, Karen loves deep conversations\, kayaking\, spending time with her dogs\, family and siblings\, and building community wherever she finds herself.

SUMMARY:Friends Day of Prayer - February
DESCRIPTION:The Spirituality of Suffering \nOur spiritual development entails the reciprocal flow between our understanding of our religious convictions and how we practice them. This Friends Day of Prayer will examine some of the core religious convictions of our spirituality for the suffering and their caregivers. In the morning\, we will focus our attention on having a vital sense of the presence of God by thinking about how and where God is present to us. In the afternoon\, we will examine our convictions about suffering\, the cross\, death\, judgment\, and the afterlife. \nAll are welcome to attend the Friends Day of Prayer retreats\, held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. It is not required to attend every month\, so register for one or more sessions as your schedule allows. While the presenters and topics vary\, each Friends Day of Prayer typically includes pastries and informal conversation at 9:30am\, a morning presentation at 10am\, an optional Mass\, a delicious lunch\, short periods of free time to enjoy the grounds or shop in the bookstore\, and an afternoon presentation. Guided by Rev. Rich Gula. \nRev. Richard M. Gula\, P.S.S. is a retired Sulpician priest. As a Sulpician\, Rich dedicated himself to educating seminarians\, priests\, and lay pastoral ministers. After nearly four decades of teaching\, he then served for eleven years as the Director of Personnel for the Sulpician Fathers\, Province of the US. During his years of teaching\, he published widely in moral theology\, medical ethics\, and spirituality\, including The Good Life and The Call to Holiness from Paulist Press and The Way of Goodness and Holiness from Liturgical Press. His teaching and his publications were recognized as building bridges from academic theology to the practical interests of pastoral ministers and of the people in the pews. In his retirement\, he serves as hospice volunteer and grief companion for Gilchrist within the Charlestown Senior Living Community.

SUMMARY:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest
DESCRIPTION:REMEMBER: The Sacred Art of Rest is an immersive wellness experience designed to help you slow down\, reconnect with yourself\, and explore rest as a sacred practice. Through reflective learning\, guided conversation\, lectio divina\, mindfulness\, meditation\, journaling\, music\, and an immersive sound bath\, we will create space to explore the stories we carry about work\, worth\, productivity\, resilience\, and rest. Together\, we will listen. We will reflect. We will release. We will receive. And we will honor the wisdom of those who came before us while making space for a different way of being. This isn’t a retreat where you come to become a better version of yourself. You are not a project to be fixed. You are invited to simply come home. \nLEARN: Explore the relationship between rest\, resilience\, identity\, culture\, and wellness. LISTEN: Create intentional space for stories\, wisdom\, music\, and reflection. REFLECT: Use guided journaling and contemplative practices to examine what you’ve been carrying. RECLAIM: Consider what rest\, joy\, softness\, and receiving look like in your life now. RECEIVE: Allow meditation\, music\, vibration\, and sound to support deep relaxation. REST: End the experience in an immersive sound bath designed to quiet the noise and invite your body into stillness. REMEMBER: You have spent enough time carrying. Come put something down. Come remember the parts of yourself that became quiet while you were surviving\, working\, caregiving\, achieving\, and showing up for everyone else. Come remember that rest belongs to you\, too. Come rest. Come restore. Come remember. Lunch is included. Guided by Teara Booker. \nTeara Booker\, MPH\, CD\, E-RYT 300 is a seasoned wellness practitioner and maternal health expert with over 20 years of experience in public and maternal health. SUMMARY:Quiet Mornings - In Person Session
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Mornings sessions are currently being held IN-PERSON on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. \n(It is also held virtually on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday.

SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“Rend your heart not your garments\, and return to the Lord\, your God.” (Joel 2:13) \nThese words from the prophet Joel invite us to take an inward journey during the 40 days of Lent to search our hearts as to where we stand with God and our neighbor and to enter more deeply into the Mystery of God’s love. \nJoin us for a quiet day of prayer as we begin the sacred Lenten season. The atmosphere for the day will be reverent silence\, which allows us to more deeply encounter God and be attuned to God’s promptings. It will begin with reflective input by Sr. Bernie\, followed by time for private prayer and reflection\, lunch in silence\, the option of walking the labyrinth or beautiful grounds\, journaling\, or just relaxing with God. There will be an opportunity to attend Ash Wednesday liturgy with distribution of ashes\, if you wish. The day will conclude with participants coming together to name the blessings of the day and to join in a closing prayer. This is a day of silence. Lunch is included. Guided by Sr. Bernadette Claps\, CBS. \nSister Bernadette Claps\, a Sister of Bon Secours\, provides spiritual direction and spiritual companionship at the Retreat and Conference Center at Bon Secours. She holds graduate certificates in Spiritual Direction\, Spirituality and Aging. She has done graduate studies in theology and received a Master of Social Work from New York University.

SUMMARY:Virtual Lenten Mini-Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Lent is a time for us to empty ourselves of worldly distractions and allow God to fill us with His love\, His grace\, and His peace.” ~St. (Mother) Teresa of Calcutta \nThe Lenten Season is a fertile time to journey with Jesus in a meaningful way and to employ our prayerful imagination as we encounter him\, his life\, and his ministry in the Gospels. It is a time of connecting intimately with Jesus while pursuing opportunities that help to nourish and renew our relationship with him and ourselves. As spiritual seekers\, we can engage with the person of Jesus as way-maker and healer and discover (or rediscover) the Holy One’s healing love for each of us in the good news he revealed and embodied within his teachings. \nAs Lent begins its perennial unfolding this February\, you are invited to gather virtually to mark this sacred period of deepening faith\, wrestling questions\, and responding to the Holy One’s call within our lives. In community\, we will engage in contemplative practices with Sacred Scripture\, such as lectio divina (with some contemporary nuances)\, while also personally reflecting upon what our respective intentions for this annual journey might behold. Dedicated time for creatively expressing these intentions will take shape through writing prompts\, group discussion\, and moments of prayer. We will also consider ancient and non-traditional Lenten practices that might enhance our journey this year. Recorded music will also be included in celebration of this time together. \nHowever you observe this transformative season\, we hope you will join us and participate in this online program. Wherever you find yourself as Lent commences\, this opportunity for beginning anew — together in solidarity and deep presence — awaits you. SUMMARY:In the Belly of Winter - A Silent Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Listening for New Life with St. Brigid \nIn the quiet heart of winter\, life is already stirring beneath the surface. Though the landscape appears dormant\, the earth is preparing for spring\, holding new life in unseen and sacred ways. This silent retreat invites us to enter that same sacred rhythm — to rest\, to listen\, and to notice what is quietly awakening within our own souls. The Irish celebration of Imbolc\, celebrated on February 1st each year\, marks the midpoint between winter solstice and spring equinox. The word Imbolc means “in the belly” and is a festival that honors the Celtic goddess\, Brigid\, along with the arrival of spring and newborn lambs. February 1st is also the feast day of St. Brigid\, the beloved female patron saint of Ireland. Over the centuries\, the stories\, myths\, and legends of the ancient Celtic Brigid and St. Brigid have become beautifully intertwined\, offering enduring images of wisdom\, hospitality\, healing\, creativity\, and hope for us today. Mid-February at Bon Secours is far more likely to feel like winter than spring! Yet if we look closely\, we notice the days are getting longer\, the sun seems brighter\, and a few enthusiastic green stems are poking up in warm places. During this silent retreat weekend\, we will listen with Brigid to the new life gestating within us and yearning to come forth with Spring energy from the depths of our souls. We will gather Friday evening for a time of welcome and introduction of Brigid before entering into silence for the remainder of the weekend. Brief reflections will be offered on Saturday morning and evening\, with an optional time of tea and gentle music on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning\, we will break silence together\, sharing from our experience and gathering the graces of the weekend before returning home. Come rest in the spacious embrace of winter and listen for the wisdom stirring within you. Guided by Lorie Conway. Meals and lodging included. \nCheck-in begins at 4pm. There will be a brief welcome session at 5:30pm\, followed by dinner at 6pm. The retreat begins after dinner at 7pm on Friday and concludes after lunch at 1pm on Sunday. Mass will be available Sunday morning for those who wish to attend. \nLorie Conway\, MA\, Spiritual Companion has a passion for deep listening and accompanying others on their spiritual journeys through spiritual companionship\, contemplative small groups\, and spiritual retreats. Lorie received her certificate in spiritual direction from the Kairos School of Spiritual Formation and holds a master’s degree in Religion from Lancaster Theological Seminary and a master’s degree in Behavioral Management & Human Resources from Johns Hopkins University. Lorie is on the programming staff at Well for the Journey and is the director of the Transforming Community: Leading Contemplative Spiritual Groups & Retreats program at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. Lorie’s spirituality is rooted in the Christ tradition and is welcoming of the many paths and unique journeys enfolded within Divine Mystery.
