Debra Pettus, Program Coordinator of Marketing & Events at the Retreat & Conference Center, shared today’s reflection in a recent staff meeting and we all enjoyed going around the table to share our three gratitude highlights! Debra can often be found spreading her contagious joy around the building, so it’s no surprise that gratitude is key to her positivity!
Gratitude is a small thing that can benefit you and others in a big way. Expressing gratitude is associated with a host of mental and physical benefits.
Studies have shown that feeling thankful can:
- Improve sleep, mood and immunity
- Decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease
- Improve Mental Strength
Gratitude is also Biblical as the Bible says;
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” ~ Ephesians 5:20
Regular gratitude can shift your mentality in a major way. And the more you willingly focus upon gratitude, the more things you will find in your life to be grateful for. So, let’s make this a daily habit! Gratitude is the best attitude!
Why not take a few moments now to think about three things that you are grateful for? Thank God for them and share with us in the comments!

Good Morning! It’s no surprise that my sister was highlighted with Gratitude as her Motivator for her Attitude. Debbie recognizes that a smile uses less muscles than a frown and that same smile can bring someone out of a depressed state and make them forget what made them frown. My sister Rocks!!!! ❤️
When God sends an Angel to open your eyes and you have not done anything to deserve it, you need to show Gratitude. As I tell my students: ‘I’m smiling because I’m here and ready to teach but another family is sitting around their table crying because their Loved One can no longer smile.’
Thanks so much for your comment, Lena! Debbie is such a blessing to so many and we’re so grateful to have her here in our ministry!
