Life in Every Stage

A Call to Compassion and Justice

In October, the Church dedicates a special focus to the sacredness of human life at every stage — from conception to natural death. But this call also extends to those whom society has marginalized or condemned, including those on death row.

We believe that every person is worthy of dignity, mercy, and compassionate care. The death penalty, however, removes hope for transformation and denies the possibility of redemption. It is incompatible with a truly life-affirming ethic.

As we mark Respect Life Month, may our hearts open to those often unseen or forgotten. May our prayer and our advocacy echo the Gospel’s call to heal rather than destroy, to restore rather than eliminate. And may we strive always to build a culture where life is cherished — not only for the innocent and the vulnerable, but for all.

Join us this October in prayer, reflection, and action as we celebrate the gift of life — and work together to dismantle systems that devalue it.

“O God, you envision for us a justice that emulates your mercy and healing. But too often we choose retribution over repair and relationship. Guide us in our work to abolish the death penalty. Through your grace, may we discard this violent practice which falls short of your perfect vision, and create in its place a justice that honors the human dignity of all. Amen.”
