At the end of August, we are welcoming Lori and Robert Fontana for a Christian Marriage Retreat. But before they arrive at the Retreat and Conference Center, they will spend the summer in El Paso, TX serving at the Annunciation House. The “A-House” serves the homeless poor and those in need of food, shelter, clothing and medical attention that are waiting for asylum paperwork to be processed. They will spend their summer cleaning, doing laundry, making meals for those in their care.
You can read their blog to follow along with this sacred journey of service. In this post, they arrive at A-House and are greeted by fellow volunteers from around the country, all eager to assist the asylum seekers and the vulnerable. They also share some “Notes from the Border.”

So while the summer heat continues on, we pray for those without access to modern conveniences that keep people safe:
God, as the heat of summer intensifies, let me be mindful of the needs of people around me. Today, I pray for those without air conditioning, electricity, clean water, and health care. I pray for those who may be in “survival mode” this season. I pray that they find a healthy community and great resources to not only survive but to thrive this summer. Lord, remind me to always be generous and to provide others with refreshment and encouragement when I meet people in need.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
