The Feast of Christ the King

Nov 24, 2024

Today the Catholic Church celebrates the end of the liturgical year with the Feast of Christ the King. Here are some spiritual and practical reflections to inspire us to strive for holiness, to serve others with love and humility, and to look forward in hope to the coming of Christ in glory.

  1. Christ’s Kingship in Our Lives: The Feast of Christ the King invites each of us to reflect on how we live under the reign of Christ. Do we acknowledge His sovereignty in our personal lives? Is Christ the king of our thoughts, our actions, and our relationships? As Catholics, we are called not just to honor Christ as King in theory, but to make Him the center of our daily lives.
  2. Living the Values of the Kingdom: The feast challenges us to align our lives with the values of Christ’s kingdom: truth, holiness, justice, love, and peace. As we meditate on the kingship of Christ, we are reminded that His reign is one of service, and we are called to imitate Him by serving others, especially the poor, the marginalized, and those in need.
  3. Hope for the Final Victory: The Feast of Christ the King also has an eschatological dimension. It reminds us that while we may face suffering, injustice, and trials in this world, Christ is ultimately victorious. His kingdom will come in its fullness at the end of time. This gives us hope in the midst of hardship and encourages us to remain faithful to His reign, knowing that one day His justice and peace will be established forever.
  4. A Call to Prayer and Action: The feast also calls us to deeper prayer and action in promoting the values of Christ’s kingdom here on earth. As we prepare for Advent, we can renew our commitment to Christ as King by engaging in works of mercy, seeking justice in our communities, and striving to live lives of holiness.
