Breathe In, Stress Out – Summertime is the peak season for travel, camps, graduations, weddings, family reunions and so much more.  But along with the joys of summer come new stresses like missed flights, long layovers, transporting kids to camp and back, and more daylight leading to longer days of work with little rest.  This retreat will provide participants with a mental, physical, and spiritual respite to reset. We will identify and discuss common stressors and strategies for improving body awareness through interoception which helps you understand and feel what’s going on inside your body. For instance, you know if your heart is beating fast or if you need to breathe more deeply.  We will use various mindfulness practices such as yoga, meditation, breath work, and expressive writing to breathe more deeply and to live with more balance and harmony in every season.

Participants will be provided with various wellness materials during this retreat. Please bring a pen, notepad/journal, yoga mat, a small pillow, and a blanket for use during the retreat. The retreat day includes lunch. Guided by Sherrell Moore-Tucker.

Sherrell Moore-Tucker is a movement and meditation instructor and the creator of MindBody FAITH, an online faith-based wellness community.  During her enlistment in the U.S. Army, she received a diagnosis of osteoarthritis and at the recommendation of her doctor, she tried mindfulness practices like yoga, meditation, and breath work. That recommendation and a recommitment to her faith transformed her life and opened the door to improvements in her overall health and well-being. She completed her first yoga training in 2010 and soon after she began offering community and corporate wellness programs in an effort to educate others about the importance of physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.

As a Wellness Educator with over 10 years of experience in the wellness space, Sherrell has training in various movement modalities such as hatha yoga, targeted stretching, mobility, and flexibility training. She is registered with the National Yoga Alliance, as a “Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider” (YACEP), an “Experienced” yoga teacher having taught over 1,000 hours of yoga, E-RYT-200. She has completed training and certifications for iRest® Level 1 meditation teacher informed by the teachings of Dr. Richard Miller and iRest Institute, Mindful Resilience for Trauma Recovery taught by the Veterans Yoga Project (VYP), Restorative Yoga for Race-Based Traumatic Stress Injury informed by the teachings of Dr. Gail Parker, and Christian & Biblical meditation informed by the teachings of Dr. Kendrick D. Weaver and the Sleeping with God Meditation Center.

She has taught wellness classes and workshops for organizations like the Arthritis Foundation, Black Girl Health Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Jack & Jill of America, and various local churches.
